In this episode of BIM After Dark Live I will be welcoming Brenton Wiberg back to the show to talk about building parametric cabinets in Revit. In this live Revit tutorial, Brenton will walk through how he goes about building a custom cabinet family from scratch! We'll explore his thought process on how to approach this type of family and his lessons learned from many years of getting PAID to MAKE families just like this one.

So sit back, relax, and let's geek out!!

I really appreciated this session and the previous one with Brenton. Being a kitchen and bath remodeler and cabinet dealer Revits' out of the box cabinets have been the thorn in my side for the last six years. I believe the incredible families which Brenton created are amazing and I can actually aford them too. So Brenton keep on doing what you do and thanks Jeff for your Modern Kitchen remodel videos. Like Akaeme said now the next thorn is lighting the designers and clients can actually appreciate oh yeah then there is furniture.

Love these videos with Brenton. They've been super helpful for me to develop my own cabinet families. Thank you!

Amazing talk. Lots of valuable tips and tricks.
A couple of comments:
I believe changing the Width, Depth, and Height parameters is possible starting from the Casewrok template. If you choose one of those parameters in the upper part of the screen, there is a box “Instance parameter” that you can tick.
Also, there is, I believe, from the users’ perspective, one crucial difference between starting from Generic Model and Generic Model Face Based. The final insertion effect can be the same, but by default, starting from the template “Generic Model Face Based” will insert an element on a vertical face and “Generic Model” with “Work Plane Based: Yes” and “Vertical: No” will by default place it on the parallel face.
Placing the back of the furniture in “Center (Front/Back) could be misleading. The “Back” RP can be set as “Defines Origin”. Then, the centre RP can be a reference for placing, e.g. a sink.
Once again, it is an excellent talk with much knowledge on building families. My comments may not apply, depending on families’ usage and user priorities.

You don’t need to change categories to switch the default parameters to instance (casework families).
If you select the dim (hosted param) and below the parameter dropdown (in ribbon) you can select the instance tick box.

I got the impression that the guest spoke less than the channel host. The poor man wanted to continue with his demonstration and was interrupted, I think, too many times.

But in the end I think it was a very useful live show. Congratulations on the work.

I was wondering if you or Brenton teach tutorials or virtual courses for building families? It is very hard to find someone that can teach this in our area.
