Prague-based design studio 52hours has created a breastfeeding bench for use in public spaces, to offer comfort and privacy to mothers when tending to their babies.

The bench, called Heer, is designed to offer mothers and babies a "small oasis of peace" in public spaces where they can come to rest, feed their child or simply isolate themselves from the hectic urban surroundings.

Ivana Preiss and Filip Vasic from 52hours wanted to provide a middle ground between comfort and discretion for mothers wanting to breastfeeding in public. The product would serve the needs of mothers and babies as well as challenging "often antagonistic cultural norms".

It's utterly ridiculous that a bench like that would be needed in order not to offend people.

I mean, it didn't tackle the stigma at all.. It reinforces it.

I don't think this is a good approach to the "breastfeeding stigma". Society shouldn't see it as a problem or a taboo. It's something natural. This bench is yelling to the people that the breastfeeding is something that it shouldn't be seen. The message is wrong and also very stereotyped (why pink!?) Also it is not "mama friendly". The only "comfort" that this bench provides is that the mom can sits.. that's all. And a mother can sitin any other bench.

im a nursing mom...i actually did not get offended by this, i thought it was kinda cool. i don't want anybody watching me nurse so a tad bit of privacy is better than none, i believe the intentions were good.

If you have a problem, don't look.

Also to be offended by something is a choice.
