Alder is one of my favorite firewood. Splits easy. Burns hot quickly as a great softer hardwood. The smoke smells excellent! Alder is my favorite choice for smoking salmon and other fish too!

I can confirm you can’t break the handle from over striking. I tried it with one of yours.
