Its strange to me that as a non-Hindu westerner who has studied the culture, I need to write this but what is with all these "drugs comments" and showing no understanding for the Aghori path? Cannabis/Ganja/Bhang is mentioned in the Atharva Veda as one if the 5 most sacred plants on earth and is referred to as a liberator. The Ayurvedic texts such as the Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Shargandhara Samhita all refer to it as a beneficial plant and there are over 200 preparations of Ayurvedic medicines that contain it. As for the Aghoris they are the last remaining sect if the Kapalikas dating back almost 1500 years ago. The texts on the kapalika sects were written by people who disagreed with them or foreigners who many believed wrote extreme accounts of human sacrifices, alcoholism etc in order to make them off as "crazy drug addicts" so that they can tell these crazy stories back home, so we dont know much about the Kapalikas. The aghori path is extremely strict and difficult. Who of you saying they are crazy drug addicts would be able to give up all your possessions, your nane, your family, friends, and wander around in a lioncloth and beg for alms? Live in the smashan all alone and do extreme sadhana to overcome human cognitive duality. I know I'm not strong enough to do it. most Aghoris infact fail and get told by their Guru to rather follow a different and easier path. you know they don't just randomly eat human flesh, drink urine, eat faeces etc? it is specific tests done after years of meditation and preparations since the point is that the aghori should be able to do these repulsive acts without disgust or hesitation, thereby showing they have overcome their bodily duality and transcendes the illusionary Maya. of people SHOULD NOT follow this path as it is too difficult and dangerous and they will likely fail and yes of course there are lots of fake aghori who are actually just homeless people who like to smoke and drink and sit around, but there are also very disciplined true aghoris. Why are you not proud that modern science is showing all the benefits of Ganja that india has known for thousands if years?
