Can fuel additives harm your carburetors? What is the best budget friendly way to clean a set of carbs? Check out this latest video as I test out a handful of cleaners in the most extreme way possible.
Using carburetor jets and rubber components I test out how they respond to a 24hr soak. The results came out pretty interesting with some controversial myths busted.

Thanks Cody. I'm a Sea Foam user and swear by the stuff. Seen it clean out a rusted fuel tank to showroom perfect. SEEMS to be working well in the carburetor as well. Your reassurance of it NOT damaging rubber was a major plus! Thumbs up!

I had a dirty main jet in my carbs. Was quoted $650 from multiple shops to clean my carbs. Used a 50/50 seafoam/gas mix. Cleared up after just a couple minutes. Filled up my tank with fuel and it clogged again. Went really heavy on the throttle while riding and it unclogged again. $7 is much better than $650.

I used Pine Sol in a cheap Harbor Freight ultrasonic cleaner to clean the carbs from my 1996 Honda Magna. Did a great job but all of the brass turned into an almost rose gold color. It was concerning but I've put thousands of miles on it since then without any carb issues. Great video! Subbed.

Being nearly 51 years old, I've known about and have been using Seafoam probably since before you were a twinkle in you're Moms eye. Great stuff for sure. Again, I want to personally thank you for the content you provide. I've got the small engine side of things, and it's great to have you here for the guys with their project bikes and general maintenance tasks. Keep on keepin on Cody! Zip~

Cool test. Poking and blowing out jets with compressor is obviously the way to completely get them clean and ready to go.

I have used Seafoam for yrs. I have a Silverado with the 5.3 and a Ford Taurus with the 3.0. The check engine light came on in both vehicles. The codes said one of the banks was running lean . I added Seafoam to both vehicles on fill-up and cleared both codes. No prob!

one that I like to use is bore cleaner. works great on crud and carbon. I don't soak any rubber components in it so I don't know how they will hold up. I imagine not to we'll so I don't due it. definitely helps loosen and break thing's up to come behind and and the finishing clean. when I deal with valves ore any heavily built up parts I mix a little seafoam with it. using steel wool to polish and clean definitely a game changer. never tried it before seeing your videos. thanks for the tip Cody. will note that if using steel wool make sure to blow or rinse out the steel wool that gets left behind.

I've been using ONLY Seafoam for the past 30 years and that's all you need, nothing else. Just put an ounce per gallon in your gas can for your chainsaws, lawnmowers, snowblowers, etc. and all of your small engines. It will keep your carbs clean all season and is an excellent fuel stabilizer for the off season. There's no reason for all different fuel additives. Seafoam is all that's needed. I haven't needed to take any of my carbs apart for cleaning since I started using it.

I think Sea Foam is better over-all then what your test showed.
That stuff has really helped my Magna.
Thanks Cody

Project Farm found that using Seafoam and some other additives like MMO did help to clean up some carbon when put in the gas tank and run through. Some worked a bit better than others. He has a few videos about it.

I had the same thing happen to a rubber diaphragm and B12 it up and gave it like an hour and it went back to it's initial shape though, I was able to put it back in the carb and working fine.

I just bought my first motorcycle an old Honda which needs some love.
I do have a random mechanic background, but your motorcycle aimed tips are awesome!

Thanks Cody, i enjoyed your video. One question: What would you add to the fuel to store a bike for 3-4 months during the winter?

Thank you. With every heartbeat, we’re blessed.

I love SeaFoam. I run some through my cb650 every once in a while and it keeps my 4 carbs clean. I also dump a decent amount in the bike before storing it for winter and it fires right up without any trouble in the spring. I don't use it as a solvent, but it's definitely my go-to first try when a fuel system needs a good cleaning.
