Active Learning in Programming and Coding

Показать описание
In computational physics, applying theoretical concepts to solve practical problems is a far from easy task for most students. Flipping the classroom makes more room for interactive teacher-led sessions, during which students work on different assignments while getting continuous support from teaching staff.
See how Professor Christophe Demazière of Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, has been developing exercises using MATLAB Grader™ in such a setup. In this setup, the teacher first elaborates on coding templates that the students work on during the interactive session. Those templates, beyond providing good coding practice, make it possible to focus on the key aspects of the coding assignments. Furthermore, the students can test their solutions via self-assessment tests prepared by the teacher.
Thanks to MATLAB Grader, the teacher can focus entirely on guiding the students when solving the different assignments. This active, learning-based approach was demonstrated to lead to more student engagement, a deeper understanding of the theoretical concepts, and increased student learning.
