First and foremost, we do not recommend using water, bleach, or soaps to clean your shades. These can cause discoloration and/or damage the shades.

If your shade is removable, take it off before you begin the process. We also suggest to turn off the lamp or fixture.

The Dry Sponge Method is our preferred cleaning technique. Using a dry sponge, gently wipe the shade and this will remove any dirt, lint, or cobwebs. Natural sponges work best and we offer a specific one for lamp shades. Find it here:

For shades in hard to reach places, use the soft bristle attachment on your vacuum to remove dirt from the shade. Compressed air can be used as well, but be sure to keep space between the nozzle and the shade.

Other options are to use a soft paint brush or a lint roller to brush off or collect dust. However, we don't recommend using these on sheer or patterned shades.

This video was very useful and to-the-point. I now know that I can't use water but I can use a vacuum, a brush, and compressed air. I have an air compressor, so this method should be no problem. One more suggestion -- do this outside! And maybe wear a mask if the shade is really dusty.

I have a shade I splattered sauce on, I decided to run it under the faucet, it came out clean as a whistle.

What about dirty finger prints that won't come off of a fabric shade after vacuuming etc? Can I soak the entire lamp shade in a bucket of warm water with soap and gentle scrub the dirt off, and then rinse well, and air dry ? How will that ruin a lamp shade?

Vacuuming is not enough. The shade needs a cleaner solution of some kind. I vacuum often and it’s still dirty NOT dusty

This video is useless. How about lampshades that are water stained or or have glue staining on them?
