Seven years after the release of their last album 'Eternal', Stratovarius once more prove their status as Power Metal's flagship and return with a big bang.

A blistering comeback from one of heavy metal’s most seminal bands, Survive is full of dynamics and drama, feeding on a wide range of emotions along the way. But the core message that this triumphant endeavour conveys is one of struggle, defiance, hope and victory.
Best exemplified by its profoundly rousing title track, Survive is the Stratovarius spirit in exquisite musical form, with all the darkness and light that goes with it.

“We spent five or six days solid, trying to come up with the lyrics for that song,” notes Jens Johansson. “When we finally settled on that punchline for the chorus, it was a good song about survival and it all just seemed to fit. It fits with the history of the band too, because we managed to survive as long as we have. This band has been through some strange days! The original line-up formed in 1984, so it’s been a long story. It was the middle of the summer, there were forest fires everywhere, there was a global pandemic and all kinds of crazy shit going on. Some of the lyrics are perhaps less uplifting than they could have been, but that reflects our mood at the time. There’s a lot of positive stuff on there as well!”

It's been 4 years since we had any new song from the band, and another long 7 years since the last album, but it's finally time! Needless to say, they never disappoint whenever they release a new single, this one sounds very powerful from the get go and with a clear message that the album will carry on the energy the band has been having for the past 13 years since "Polaris". Catchy chorus, heavy riffs, powerful melodies, feels like a mix of all the previous albums condensed into an awesome single, been listening to it since release and I can finally put into words what I feel about it... Excited for what's to come!

I haven't listened to Stratovarius in a long time, 7 years since their last release. It reminds more of Tracedawn than Stratovarius which is a good thing. I love how guitar driven the song is but still has Jen's sound all over it. Matias is an incredible player, even his rhythm playing has so much flavour with slides, harmonies and bends. Timo's vocals on point as always and still somehow managing to find new melodies after such a lengthy career. This feels like Jens and Timo learned a lot from working on Cain's Offering - Stormcrow with Jani and brought those elements back to Stratovarius. To top it off the mix is fat with every instrument clearly audible. Great to hear the guys giving it their all. Hyped for the full album!

It's been around 10 years since I first listened to stratovarius and I'm still constantly in awe of how much energy they carry into their new songs. When all is said and done they may have the most consistently awesome track record in power metal. Doubly impressive for how long they've been in the game.
