Everybody in the show _thinks_ it's a Shrine because they view Sukuna as something like a God, but it actually is a Kitchen and it's a misunderstanding that Sukuna deliberately spreads both as a joke as well as an additional layer of defense. It’s a translation error, as the “Malevolent Kitchen” debate only seems to be from the side of Crunchyroll. In the manga, it’s called Malevolent Shrine, and was never mistranslated. It’s most likely due to the recent overworking updates, both Mappa animators and Mappa affiliated. Either way, it’s a simple translation error
