I dig using the raw metal ones so that way you can use lapping paper to polish them to make them push through tight spots more easy.

Thank you for this review. I am a new paracordist and have been having problems with using a fid. I wasn't sure if I should melt the end or not now I feel more confident with what to do in the future.
