With the Ode Gen 2, would you still grind at level 4?

Its design is that of a semi-immersion brewer. Because of the tiny exit hole, the water and coffee get to hang out together for a good amount of time. By constantly stirring, you'd be overextracting your coffee if it wasn't ground too coarsely. By the looks of your ground coffee, it looks to be at least a medium coarse grind which would explain the crater you see if you leave out the agitation. If you were to grind finer to say a medium or medium fine, you would not need to continually stir the slurry. And you'd end up with a moderately concave, crater-less bed without any intervention. And the coffee would taste delicious.

If you're grinding at 4 on the Ode, you must be using the Ode Gen 1? Because 4 on the Gen 2 is too fine for the Cup One for most people.

To quote the immortal words of Sweet Brown..."Ain't nobody got time for that!" Get an Aeropress.

Taking the lid off and stirring will drop the water temp below the recommended level. For $250 this should have a shower head on it for even water distribution.

might as well use chemex with all the work required just to make one cup

looks good but man that's way to much work for a simple cup of coffee lol... but I appreciate those who appreciate a good cup of coffee. I usually just use my $20 B+D and I do grind beans using a Baratza. Usually grind half a bag at a time and store in a air tight container. I do not presoak my publix brand filters. I do have a aeropress, french press, moka pot, pour over, and a Keurig machine. I usually use the B+D drip maker or Keurig thou. I just can't justify spending like $200+ for a single serve brewer. I am eyeing the Breville espresso maker tho as a special gift to myself one day. Plus having to stand over the machine and stir the coffee grinds sounds like something I'd grow to hate doing.
