Wetlands are critical ecosystems in the world, providing various goods and services to the environment. Using Zambia as an example, approximately 20% of the country's landmass is occupied by wetlands such as the Barotse Floodplains, Kafue Flats and the Bangweulu Wetlands. While economies may be heavily dependent on functioning wetlands, the wetlands are also under threat of destruction that compromises their ability to fulfil their role in the ecosystem. In this talk, Griffin discusses the importance of wetland conservation and explores ways to save our wetlands from further degradation - not only for biodiversity, but also for the people that depend on them. Griffin Kaize Shanungu has decades of experience in the environment and conservation sectors in Zambia and Southern Africa, working for the government of Zambia and for international organisations such as the Zambia Wildlife Authority, WWF Zambia, and the International Crane Foundation.
