Best Areas to Stay in While Visiting London

Find out what some of the best areas to stay in while visiting London are (in my opinion). Make sure you're booking your accommodation in an area that's safe and interesting, by choosing to stay in one of these London neighborhoods.

Was in London last month and we got a HomeAway rental flat in Bloomsbury--way cheaper than a hotel. Loved it. It's very residential and quiet, but near the tube (Russell Square) and some shops if you need to buy groceries. Would stay there again.

We stayed in Islington, walking distance to King’s Cross and Angel Stations, we loved it. The area felt very safe, there was great shopping and supermarket near by.

Other places you could consider include Camden (great for young folk, great market/eating options, vibrant), Islington (as others here have recommended), Kilburn/west hampstead (save £40 a night accommodation, well-connected, great value eating options), Hammersmith, Stockwell/Brixton and Battersea. In all these places you may need to allow 10 or 15 minutes on bus or tube to get to central London, but you should save quite a bit on accommodation. Plus they will feel a bit more authentic London, less overwhelmed by tourists.

I've stayed everywhere in London as I've been there so many times and I found Kings Cross or near Euston Station to be really convenient. Also, anywhere along the Picadilly line for both sightseeing and Heathrow. I stayed in Kensington twice for an event in the Olympia but found that it was kind of far and not cheap. My dad always stays in the Waldorf Hilton on central london

I'm actually staying in Kings Cross this evening as I'm watching this! Not my favourite area to stay in, but it has excellent connections and a wide variety of food choices! £65 for tonight too! Check out those chain hotel discounts and offers!

In May 2018 I stayed in Westminster and felt completely safe. It was my first visit and I can’t wait to go back to see the less touristy areas like Kensington or Notting Hill .

In Sept 2015 when I visited London I stayed in the Victoria area. It was nice, central and well connected.

I like mostly these two axes: 1 Covent Garden-Aldwych-St Paul and 2 Camden Town-Chalk Farm-Belsize Park-Hampstead. I work in Chalk Farm and i worked in Aldwych.

I'm heading over in June and picked up nice accommodation in Pimlico in Westminster because it was close to Victoria Station which I needed for later travels in Europe. Two nights including breakfast at Luna and Simone was AU$408 and 3 nights at st George pimlico was AU$225!

We stayed in Bethnal Green which was cheaper than Shoreditch but a 5 mins bus ride away. Loved Shoreditch and Soho areas the best for hanging out in London. Great tips!

I usually stay south of the river, near Southbank (Newington) just over the Waterloo bridge.. it has more of middle class non-touristy feel like my home in Queens, NY.. but still within walking distance of everything.
