Matatu comes from the fact the fare cost thirty cents consisting of three ten- cent coins in Gikuyu "mang'otore matatu ". You will find that the roundabout is sometimes called "keep left ". South of Kenya in Tanzania the minibuses are called "daladala", which actually was five shillings, although it costs much more. Tuck tucks are called " Bajaj " from the name of Indian firm that makes them(licensed from the Italian company called Lambretta.
I like your posts. They provide contrast. Keep it up.

Kenyans have changed alot of British words like from crisps to crips. Can we just have an official African English language?😹

"Nduthi" is because of the sound motorbikes make. Sounds like the word.

Most Kenyans know or understand synonyms but American friends really have a challenge with that. Examples: cookie vs biscuit, chips vs crisps, chips vs French fries, minced meat vs burger meat, lorry vs truck, boot vs trunk, lift vs elevator, flat vs apartment etc. While most Kenyans will quickly catch what Americans mean... Most Americans are likely to ask you what you are talking about 😄
