This is exactly what good teaching is. Quick, simple, easy to understand. A fundamental piece of knowledge that school just skips over.

Thank you so much! I’m currently taking calculus class and learning the fundamentals truly helped me a lot!

Thanks for the only reference to this rule I could find on youtube. Do you know the formal name for this so we can research it further, as well as the more complicated aspects you mentioned. Perhaps a good book as a reference?

Thanks for this really great lesson! I was using aleks and stuck because of the way they worded the instructions!

In your last example, why x^2 is not inside the absolute value? Sorry I have poor understanding in English. Can you explain it in easy words? Thank you.

If I am given the expression √x^7 can I assume that x ≥ 0? Because, if x < 0, then I would have a negative radicand under an even radical sign (undefined for real numbers.) Thank you.

I'm confused. In my infantile exposure to this, I think square root of (-3)^2 = absolute value of I -3^2 I is a convoluted way of stating square root of (-3) x (-3) = 9 square root. which is 3.

Is it the result 8 or -8 ? Bcuz square root will be (-2)^6/2 = -8

What about multiplying radicals and using absolute value to ensure them

Why you square first and then find the square root instead of the other way around?

In my school district we don’t learn radicals until pre-calculus 11.

I had a very very complicating problem involving two product radical expressions. I had to simplify them but the problem totally overturned the rule, at least that is what I think, which thrown me into confusion
