One of the greatest bands ever. And some the top players of the instruments then and now.

They wrote and performed this song with all acoustic instruments as a response to jazz purists who were criticizing them for using electric instruments and playing jazz-rock fusion. This song is one of my favorite acoustic jazz pieces.

Stanley Clarke is the Micheal Jordan of bass players! This is THE super group of jazz! Each member is a superstar! Please do more of this!

Simply one of the best fusion band ever. Chick, Stanly, Al, and Lenny are all masters of the craft. Saw them live twice and they really play this well. And many many great tunes from that CD. Enjoy and welcome to the long and winding fusion road.

Awesome !! Choice. So I was born in 69 and my mother loved this album especially Midieval Overture. Our neighbor was a Xylophone player in the Rochester NY Crusaders and would play this song for her. Marching Bands were absolutely huge in the mid to late 70’s.
Please give a listen to Midieval Overture

I love the genuine joy of discovery on your face when you discovered that there is another level of musicians and musicianship. These guys were masters of their prospective instruments at the time that collaborated. And magic happened.

You jumped in the deep end. All four of these musicians are masters, some of multiple instruments. They all have extensive solo careers, and tons of collaborations with other artists, that showcase their virtuosity as well. This is one of the defining bands, and albums, of the genre known as “jazz rock fusion” or “fusion.” Often, but not exclusively, instrumental, and showcasing virtuoso performances. The best in the genre also exhibit great songwriting. Happy exploring!

Chick Corea-Keys
Lenny White-Drums
Stanley Clarke-Bass
Al Di Meola-Guitar

Return to Forever, founded by Chick Corea, is often cited as one of the core groups of the jazz-fusion movement of the 1970s. Polo, you’re listening to one of the essential albums and songs of the genre. The point of the channel is for you to give us your reaction to music that you haven’t heard or are not comfortable with. You’ve definitely done that here. This music is not for everyone, mostly older people adore this music. Five great bassists for me of the modern era are: Ron Carter, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten and maybe the best of all, Jaco Pastorius. You’ve now heard two of them, Stanley and Marcus. Great reaction and thanks for keeping an open mind. 🔥✌️

Polo! Im almost 66 now and I believe it was 1975 when my girlfriend and I went walking downtown San Diego.
We were walking on C Street and stumbled upon The Community Concourse.
The Marquis read :
Chick Corea and RETURN TO FOREVER.
We were about 17 or 18 years old and pretty much rock and rollers at the time.
Long story short, we paid about $6.50 to get in about 5 minutes prior to start.

WE GOT BLOWN AWAY!

Chick Corea, Al Dimeola, Stanley Clark and Lenny White.

First half was all acoustic then Intermission.

2nd half was All Electric!

I've seen almost all the most popular major
rock 'n' roll bands in the world,
and, this concert was second to none!!!

This is hilarious for me to watch. I saw them play this at the Dorthy Chandler Pavillion in L.A. with four of my scraggly surfer/musician friends when we were 16 years old. I can pretty much sing along with every solo on this song. Each of these players were arguably the best in the world on their instruments at the time (1976).
And…Stevie Wonder came out on stage and sang superstition with Return To Forever backing him up. Glad people are still discovering this.

I Return to Forever until this very day. This has been in my ever changing playlist since 1976

This is fusion/jazz-rock at it's best! All 4 members of R.T.F. could be a rabbithole, they are masters who played and learned from the greatest in jazz. More please! Peace.

Greatest track ever. I saw them in 1983. Amazing. I never get tired of it.

What a way to start the new year, with one of the best songs ever. May your whole year be so brilliant!
Here we go...and if you don't love this I will be dumbfounded.
Well okay! I'm gonna put that in the "Approves of" column. The "Duel of the Tyrant and Jester" from the same album is another that brilliantly displays their personal pyrotechnical prowess (ppp not to be confused with pp which would not be proper to display). Chick Corea, RIP, was leader and keyboard player, which is why he is more forward than more keyboard players. I once stumbled into a free concert in the Massachusetts woods one autumn. A fine smoke in the air made the concert all the more wondrous. He was accompanied by Vibes player Gary Burton, another PhD in music and also master of the tools.

All star cast of musicians. The great AL DiMeola on guitar was only 19 when Chick invited him to become one of the 4 founding members You could explore all 4 (Stanley Clarke-bass, Chick Corea-keys, Lenny White-drums in addition to DiMeola).

Al Dimeola, the guitarist plays acoustic with John McGloughlin and Paco de Luca. Fabulous concerts.

Stand up bass, played with bow and also with fingers.

They are all masters. Stanley is playing an upright acoustic bass, very difficult instrument. Check out some live stuff from these guys, they’re awesome! Saw them in ‘84 in Boston.
