Despite the star power of Marvel's Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy, Furiosa flopped, opening withing striking distance of Garfield. Many are upset with that, yet as we will see in this postmortem, the audience rejecting this movie should come as no surprise to no one, not with the movie adhering to Kathleen Kennedy school of girlboss filmmaking ...

Surprised by a flop? I am only surprised when something Hollywood makes succeeds.

I don't care how good movies are these days. I'm happy to build a physical media collection slowly by going to pawn shops and estate sales rather than give the people who hate me in Hollywood even one more penny.

Hollywood: Striking when the iron is ICE COLD.

9 years ago i left the cinema wondering "i wonder what Max is going to do next", not "i wish the film spent an extra couple hours on Furiosa's backstory".

Mad Max was never a heavy hitter in the box office. Fury Road made 380 millions on a 180 m budget. That's not impressive at all. Most people streamed it. Making a prequel 10 years later without the titular character of the franchise is crazy. This movie was doomed from the start.

For my family, going to the movies has become so cost prohibitive that we rarely go and certainly won't go to anything that has even a whiff of "girl boss" or any other "THE MESSAGE" included.

If Furiosa came out 2-3 years after Fury Road WITH Charlieze, there would have been enough good faith to surf on the enthusiasm the public had on the web while the iron was still hot.
Not saying it would have been in the same range as Fury Road, but it would not have been what it's doing now.

May be good, may be bad, doesn't matter, the entertainment budget is discretionary and the money is going elsewhere. Hollywood needs to understand they are competing for the entertainment $$ and they are now losing. They still think they are essential, that we care, but we don't.

With cost of living, I can afford 2 movies a year. I choose carefully, everything else I wait for streaming.

no one went to watch it because Hollywood is now the home of remakes, reboots, prequels, and just utter nonsense.

It's not a question of executives being out of touch with what movie goers want to see, cuz they don't give af. These executives are seemingly trying to foster change in society by means of media propaganda. They don't care what you want to see, they will tell you what you want to see and act like they believe that you will listen and like it. They question is who is co ordinating this action on society.

I think another reason aswell is everything is so expensive now a days that people cant go see every movie in theaters and simply just wait for it to come out on sreaming

I saw the movie. What can I say, I took a chance. This one is not a "girl-boss" movie, despite what the marketing might lead you to believe. Furiousa is not made a super-hero simply by having XX chromosomes, like in some modern "girl-boss" movies. She actually goes through the typical hero's journey formula of old. She's also not overpowered, and actually has to struggle. She's not getting in fist fights with men and kicking-ass, her super powers are determination and marksmanship. She doesn't take down men in physical confrontations. For me it was enough to suspend my disbelief, and honestly it wasn't a bad film. I think in another era before everyone has been completely jaded and pissed off by Hollywierd's insistence on following the new woke formula, this movie might have made it. I still think they over spent on this one, but price aside, I thought it was worth a watch.

I don't care if they ever make another movie about Mad Max.

The trilogy is what it is.

The wisdom of "Stop trying to make 'fetch' a thing!" has been lost on modern entertainment. They roll out a new fetch every couple of weeks and are shocked when it doesn't work, instead letting things develop naturally by giving audiences what they want.

I'm sick of the same old Marvel actors being in EVERY movie.

Hollywood: “I am Furiosa!”
Audiences: “And I am…indifferent.” (*snap!*)

Is it possible that no one cared about a MAD MAX film without MAD MAX in it?

Is it possible that people now understand how much of a narrative dead end a prequel is?

Is it possible that general audiences have had enough of "Hollywood Garbage" being shoveled into cinemas?

Hopefully.
