"Is there any topic players are too sensitive to touch on and that you should avoid?"

Lines and veils is a pretty good starting point for the sensitive stuff, lines for stuff that is never gonna be roleplayed and veils being things that you cut to black on instead of describing.

Do Session 0
My session 0: One of my players asked if he could cast hellish rebuke inside someone's intestinal track

DMing my first online campaign I made sure to ask everyone individually before session zero what topics were off limits. Then, during session zero I listed them out and asked if anything needed to be added. It was great and made everyone more comfortable and confident in me as their DM so definitely recommend it 👌

Thank you for mentioning asking for topics players don't want to touch on! It can be incredibpy hard to take the step as a player to protect yourself in a new enviroment and having a DM ask that makes opening up feel a lot safer!

The last one is really important and wholesome actually. If someone has trauma surrounding a certain thing or situation or something, leave that out of the campaign

Before even a session 0, I do what I call "hook sessions" which are one on one sessions with each player. This allows for open discussion about backstory and such without the other players potentially finding out about something before the appointed time.

This is actually a really good idea that makes total logical sense and yet I've never seen done.

Good job!

Honestly me and my friends just did so much homebrew it's not even D&D at this point but still fun

I’ve learned so much about DND since I’ve started watching your videos I’ve always wanted to get into it but it seemed pretty intimidating after seeing a bunch of your videos I’m just gonna dive into it and give it a shot thank you

Handing out a checklist with topics or content that players could find uncomfortable is always a good one.

I use one with three options for each topic:
- Comfortable/no problem
- Only include after talking about it, give a warning
- Absolute no-go

It really helps to give a clear overview on what things to avoid!

One rule my dnd group uses is a ability score/feat add. We always use point buy but when we get the score improvements/feats we gain both instead of choosing. This allows for creative builds whilst still having high/max ability scores in the primary abilities. Its a lot of fun to add to your table.

Where you can rest, how rest works during desert travel, taking the identify spell and removing curse spell and making them jobs that you can find people to perform for a cost to fit my setting, slightly altering attunement, and finally creating a Alchemist class for my homebrew campaign that's set in a Desert dealing with devils and genie's. Also changed death saves to add a deal with a devil aspect. Overall, lots of homebrew but it'll be fun. Players know this going into it.

Session 0 is legit basically the most important session you can have, I cannot stress this enough. Especially if you're meeting some or all members of the group for the first time. Knowing what everyone came here for is incredibly important. While I am heavily a roleplay person, I have no issues with combat. That said, if it's all combat then I may get tired of it, so it's important to know what you're going into.

Our campaign is actually doing one soon! Great advice for anyone who hasnt played before, and good advice even if you have!

Another good thing to discuss on session zero would be the usage of a battlemap or theater of the mind.

I've had this campaign I made and really wanted to run for a Magic: the Gathering campaign- where All the planes are forced to converge into a singular plane, with custom effects. One of these effects is Compleated

In the campaign, compleation gives immunity to Poison and Phyrexian Oil and makes most other Phyrexians ignore you. The downside is that Rests will no longer work, requiring the oil and other materials from different factions (and depending on the faction they choose they could get special perks as well)

I don't even play DnD and I'm invested at this point also I really like your dark campaign stories like the one where the queen killed all the heros
