Honestly, a prehistoric Pokémon game seems like a banger in the making. You can make Pokémon that are distantly related to Pokémon down the line, a ton of lines that just went extinct for whatever reason, reimagine fossil Pokémon, and so many other ideas, such as now inactive legendary Pokémon being awake. The only issue comes in obtaining these Pokémon in games set in the modern day.

Since prehistory is so vast, it's possible that most of the fossil Pokémon lived in completely different eras. I think it would be cool if there was a way you could time travel to the different eras of Pokémon prehistory and observe how the landscape and the Pokémon change over millions of years

So the professors are casually breaking the timeline by sending future tech to the past.

The Genesect makes sense, in its Dex entry for pokemon X, it says it was a prehistoric bug colony captured by Team Plasma, and they enhanced the cannon on its back.

The only fossil we can confirm being rock type is the aerodactyl specifically mega aerodactyl because in one of its Pokédex entries it states mega aerodactyl was its true prehistoric form

Or instead of poke balls you could use a friendship mechanic where you would need to gain the Pokémon's trust.

That unfossilized archeops looks awesome

I already loved Archeops and this art makes me love it even more! I really want to see what Cradilly looks like, and Armaldo

Tortuga getting the inspiration from the old school artwork is a really dope detail. It was supposed to be in the original red/blue games from what I've seen, but ended up being scrapped and reused in gen 5. Js, it's a really nice touch and gives it a nostalgic feel.

How cool would it be if we had a prehistoric pokemon game, where we play as a very inteligent pokemon teaming up and not catching, but teaming up with other pokemons, to fight idk, a mad ancient evil legendary pokemon

I've always liked the idea that whatever Pokemon genesect used to be had a scorpion-like tail that it could shoot out of. Maybe poison type and it literally shoots venom.

There’s a fan made project called Pokémon Amber where they explore a similar concept. Although instead of being set in the past the region had perfected the fossil revival process.

Alternatively, you could create a skull island region where its barely explored by people and is a sort of sanctuary that keeps time stagnant, protecting the prehistoric pokemon from extinction

I wanted to mention that there’s possibly a hint towards the Kabutops being turned to Genesect theory being an actual thing, within the Pokémon card game of all places. There was a Shinning Kabutops card a long time ago and many years later pokemon started to make revamped versions of old cards with new Pokémon which gave us the Shinning Genesect card on the exact same background as the Kabutops one

this is an amazing concept and would buy it immediately

Kabuto with a different design wouldn't make much sense: it's based on the horseshoe crab, which has existed in its current form for millions of years and never changed past that.

Why not take it a step further and make it a wildly different game where you actually have to befriend Pokemon because there is no way to capture them. And every Pokemon has a different way to befriend them.

Like you give food to the ancestors of Snorlax. But for the more hot headed Pokemon you actually have to prove your strength and beat them in a battle.

Maybe instead of pokeballs, prehistoric trainers used methods of like sparing and befriending Pokémon?

I’ve been making a fan region based on nature so this would work perfectly

Mega Aerodactyl is actually a paradox mon. In its mega description it says that it’s mega closely resembles what it looked like in prehistoric times.
