I don't think a life ban is the proper punishment for this offence, I could see if they were conspiring with another team and taking bribes to lose wickets for a ban to be the right thing but a life sentence for shoplifting is a bit harsh. Drop him as captain but give him a chance to somehow redeem himself a little.

give Smith, Warner and Banroft a 1-2 year ban from cricket and ban Smith and Warner from IPL, thats where it will hurt them since he's about to make a few million there. They need to understand that cheating is not acceptable, especially if youre caught.
