We know you guys are crazy about crossovers these days, so for this Big Test, that’s what we’re serving up—with a twist. The theme of this video? Past versus present versus future.

Representing good old internal combustion and forced induction is the 2022 Honda HR-V V Turbo, which marries turbo thrills with an extremely sleek exterior and a well-curated selection of features. Waving the banner for tried-and-tested hybrid technology is the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross GR-S Hybrid, which also comes fully loaded with safety kit and driver aids—but at a premium that would still take a while to offset with fuel savings. And finally, leading the way to the future is the 2022 Nissan Kicks VL, which features a more novel form (at least in our market) of hybrid electrification and easily beats its rivals in terms of pricing.

Anton, Leandre, and Niky put these three crossovers in a series of eight tests to determine which offers the best package. Click play on the video above to see which one takes the win.

Presenter: Anton Andres, Leandre Grecia, and Niky Tamayo

Excellent comparison. It's still a matter of priority. If you have lots of money, and appreciate the joy of driving, the HRV will beat the 2.

For me the back seat comfort is a tie.

Cross elbow space is lesser while kicks has more while leg room the otherway around.

For the fuel economy, the other 2 are in eco mode while kicks is in normal mode. This one is clearly not fair regardless if kicks is using regenerative braking which should be part of the equation.

Kicks may have even beat hrv in terms of braking if set in eco mode due to regenerative braking assistance as well.

Your 1st test, the 0-80 kph is invalid since you revved the HR-V so that the turbo would be spooled before starting, that's not how it would be used in the real world. Just floor the throttle from idle RPM for all 3 cars, using it's sportiest accelerator mapping. And why the arbitrary 0-80, just make it the standard 0-100 kph test. If you want to test in-gear, highway overtaking then test the 80-100 or 80-120 kph acceleration as well.

I disagree with the boot space comparison I think the Nissan should be in first place because the boot was in place with all the items stored while in the Toyota the boot cover had to be retracted

Hi, just noticed the remark at the end “even w/o double points, TCC would have won by one” computation actually without double points is TCC = 20-3, Kicks = 19-2, and HRV = 17-1 which makes the TCC and Kicks a tie. And honestly, there was very lil diff between the two’s consumption 27:25

Interesting test, however you never covered the driving experience at all. The Kicks being 100% electrically driven, would have a hugely different driving experience than the other two. Examples of which would be NVH levels, 1 pedal Driving, instant torque of 280nm, ie all the benefits of a 100% electric drive train. This plays huge to anyone that enjoys driving.

If the TCC would have not been granted an extra point for braking, Kicks and TCC would have been tied overall. For the price point, power to fuel efficiency, guess who wins

The Yaris cross hybrid is more equivalent to the kicks. The TCC is next level up.

The Cross has low speed follow, it's just not advertised. Try to trigger the adaptive cruise control in traffic and it will do a low speed follow ;)

I really like the TCC, for me the looks are superior compared to the two. I got a chance to test one last year and didn't really take a seat on the 2nd row. I was surprised that it has less shoulder and elbow room despite its size. But for a point difference versus the price tag, I think the Kicks and TCC Hybrid are a tie.

Value for money category, ang nanalo yung Nissan Kicks na maraming kulang na features na meron sa Cross at HR-V.

Sana cheapest nalang yung category mas akma pa. Hahaha

Hrv definitely looks better in term of design, and not to forget it had magic seats that can tall, fold, and flat mode which tcc and kicks dont have.

the 3-2-1 point system gives each category relatively equal weight regardless of how much better or worse the other cars performed, making the results seem closer that they probably are. the 21 and 20 km/l performance is 66% better than the 12.1 km/l performance but this isn't reflected in the 6-4-2 points. same goes for the other quantitative categories like acceleration and braking.

"And i'm Anton." Man, your falsetto is the winner.

id choose the kicks amongst the three haha

altho the guy with the glasses was really defending the hrv

and when speaking of cargo space i would think the kicks won that round

If the Kicks braked even just 1m shorter than the HR-V, it would be granted 3 points, and 2 pts for the Honda and only 1 point for the Toyota Corolla Cross. The Nissan Kicks would have won this comparo

You should have included the Mazda CX-30 Hybrid instead of the Honda HR-V.
