I am of Spanish Descent with Native American and European blood, the honesty, brutal and beautiful should be told. I see the Spaniard, I see myself, I see the tribes and they look like my actual brother, I see the Padres Farming, I think of my Grandfather who would take me to the Pala Powwow.... I see the natives working with maize and I think of my mother, I see the dancing young ladies with long hair, and I think of my Sisters and aunts.

I even have Chinese from a great grandfather... I see the immigrants from China and the East coast and I think of my family ancestors... California is my family. I love you California.

Now, I see our flag, I see the the states symbol of the Great Grizzly, as we were a part of Mexico and Spain, I see the Mustang, and the Golden Eagle. and as a part of the United States, we have the Bald Eagle... that is our Totem....

In "San Francisco Bay Area" where I live, it is still the homelands of the Ohlone Nation for over 12, 000 years. There are up to 8 linguistic regions that make up the Ohlone or Costanoan People: Karkin, Chochenyo, Ramaytush, Tamyen, Awaswas, Mutsun, Chalon, and Rumsen. I was born in the valley of the Tamyen Territory of the Ohlone People, which has been occupied as "Santa Clara" or "San José" by the settlers without properly acknowledging Ohlone People or ratifying the Treaties. There are around 1, 000 identified Ohlone mixed descendants in the Bay Area today. Currently they are revitalizing various Ohlone traditions, languages, and the Shellmounds (burial grounds). They even reformed their communities in their revitalization efforts, which include the *Confederated Villages of the Lisjan Ohlone, the Sogorea Te’ Land Trust, the Costanoan Rumsen Carmel Tribe, the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, the Muwékma Ohlone* and the only federally recognized Indigenous Reservation in the Bay Area, *the Indian Canyon.*

During the missions era there was a separation of church and state. Soldiers did rape, spread sexual transmitted diseases, the Church opposed the state. Junípero Serra, protested walked barefooted twice to Mexico’s capital and even got robbed. He moved the First Nations People away from the Spanish spillers into a different land. The Franciscans took care of the First Nations People as human beings. The Franciscans thought like they think now. Their vows have not changed since St Francis of Assisi (Revere the unique dignity of each person. Encourage a trustful, prayerful community of learners. Serve one another, society, and the Church. Foster peace and justice, and. Respect creation).

I have an old leather bound gold leaf embossed book about early Santa Barbara. It said the native women and children were captured first. then when the men came to free their families, they were also captured. "After 3 days of starvation, they could get the men to work." Our American history can be a very disheartening.

The Palomar Observatory was built where it was because there were no city lights in that area. There were only the campfires of the wild almond-eating nomadic "Indians" who lived in the area. What was the name of this clan, band, or tribe? What happened to them? Do they still exist?
