I'm a elder Millennial warehouse manager and I would never pull this crap on my crew. I'm not sure how this is a Millennial thing.

Millennial manager here. I always tell my employees “stay clocked in every single minute you’re here. This is AMERICA”.

As gen x I totally agree with Management will always try these things. If it was "just a quick meeting" have it during work hours. It's no big also be prepared for management to try to make your life harder for not working free time

If I'm not getting paid, I'm not coming. Period.

I don’t care who’s involved…Millennials, Gen Z, Gen X, Boomers. If I come in early or stay late, I’m taking my time back somehow some way periodt.

I always tell my managers, if you make me even think about work when I'm supposed to be off work I'm charging you for it.

I would never be in this position because there's no way in hell I'm getting out of my bed to come in early. 🤷🏽‍♀️

So if the meeting has no monetary value, I don’t see a reason to show up then!

"We really don't offer comp time--" "Yes, you do. SCOTUS said you need to pay employees for work-related activities. If you don't like it, go talk to SCOTUS again. Thank you, have a nice day. Bye."

I had a manager who held 7am meetings. These meetings were useless to most people there. The boss' best friend used the meeting to ask us for donations to her self created charity. Then we were told to work an extra hour at the end of the day for free to improve the company's performance. What a scam.

If the meeting is mandatory, the pay is mandatory.

Or, the work lunch.

Just because you spring for some cheap ham and cheese sandwiches, doesn't mean I am not claiming that hour as work.
This was an eye opener, at a new job, when I started there. You'd have thought I was instigating a rebellion, against the government, when I told them my position. They even handed me my walking papers and cited multiple instances of 'insubordination' as the reason for my termination. LOL
A quick filing with my state's employment commission and a few letters from an attorney, had them in arbitration pretty quick. Lucky for me unemployment was on the rise, as well. Everything just seemed to be against that poor Assistant Director. The recommended payout from arbitration, hurt... But...
The worst was when I contacted all my former co-workers and let them know my poor treatment there, got me paid. Karma does exist.

I can't count the number of times the manager at my old job would ask us to come in early, but would cancel the meeting with no notice or just before it was supposed to start.

My personal time is more important for my wellbeing, and that’s why I’m willing to spend it with my family

Another management trick, is to have an early morning meeting, an hour or two before start of day, then cancel 5 minutes before the meeting starts. That way they eaked out another 90 minutes or more of work from every team member, since you are expected to work to end of day time.

Yeah, but now they use up lunchtime for meetings instead. Training is also held at lunchtime.

I had a job like this once.

An hr meeting every Tuesday unpaid and a 4 hr evening meeting once a month.

On average 8-10 hrs a month unpaid “team meetings”

I was hourly and they said my “bonus” covered the hrs at the end of the year.

Our bonus was a 1000 bucks.

I said no and I would be submitting my time or not participating.

I was fired on the spot and told to “sue us”

I contacted legal counsel and my provinces labour board and was told not to bother.

The company had 100 million set aside to battle every labour dispute and indeed fought every one.

Their service sucks now, nobody bothers with Kal Tire anymore.
