East London Apartment Tour ✨ (What £2300 Gets You in London | One Bed Flat Visit)

If you’re wondering what a central London one bedroom flat looks like, then this is the video for you. We filmed this video in winter 2023 of our zone 2 one bedroom flat a few days before we moved out. We no longer live in the flat.

My name is Sophie and, together with my husband Antoine, we lived in this one bed Georgian property for exactly a year. Situated close to the Columbia Road Flower Market, in this flat tour we’re going to show you our hall, living room/ desk/ dining area, kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom.

I always love watching these kind of videos and so decided to film this at the end of our lease to show you what you can expect to pay in London. It’s not our usual travel content but we hope you’ll enjoy it nonetheless. For context: we originally rented this flat after spending three years living in Paris.

We didn’t have any kind of rental history in the UK so we didn’t have a great pick of options when it came to flat hunting. We arrived in London and had a hotel booked for three weeks, in which time we had to secure a flat rental. When our landlord told us they were selling the flat, we decided to put all of our things into storage and go travelling for a bit (which is where we’re currently at).

if anyone is wondering the flat already sold for £500, 000 plus a £4, 128 yearly service charge and £1, 576.26 of council tax per year.

So if one had bought it with a 20% deposit (100k) with a 5.5% interest you'd have a monthly payment of £2, 456 + service and council tax = £2931.33 a month PLUS all the normal bills so you'd have to be two people both on a salary of about 60k (50% above the average in london) to live in a 517 sq foot 1 bedroom flat that needs to be fixed up

Definitely not worth it. You are lucky you are changing flat actually. 2300 with a mouse, plumping issues and toileting issues. No thank you

Despite the issues it has turned out to be a very sweet and cozy flat. You have really made it amazing! Thank you for sharing.

However I do hope your next property is much better!

I was in Paris last April, saw these these bears everywhere & wondered what the story was. The funniest one was a bathroom shop- the bear had his head down the toilet!😂
Lovely flat btw.😘

You can also use a soft cloth with coconut oil on it that you mixed with peppermint essential oils . It really makes the leaves shine and keeps the pests away. Nice place :)

It would be a really nice flat, if there werent all these issues. People commenting on it being too expensive for the location: East London especially around Columbia Road is a highly sought after area, there is much more cool and fun stuff to do than in Notting Hill for example. I do find the flat slightly overpriced given all the issues…whoever buys it will have to sort those out.

So beautiful and charming.. i would have liked to see more about the decorations in the kitchen or where you work(ed) and not about the fridge and dishwasher but it's ok!! expensive and with issues BUT with a lot of space and a nice neighborhood !

I used to pay 1.3k in Reading for a bigger place 2 years ago. Reading is 30mins from Paddington London by train. Madness.

Wow, we pay €1950 for 105m2 in Berlin. Two double beds, huge kitchen diner, big living room. I thought we had it bad, but London seems extortionate.

Born and raised a stones throw from here. Native locals can’t afford the mice, bad plumbing, lack of space and poor heating you romanticise. As soon as I saw “East London” I knew it was Hackney. It’s as if the Hackney is the only place in East London nowadays. Every one is here.

I know you're only a small YouTuber now so probably no one cares, but you 100% doxxed your precise location in the first 30 seconds. Probably want to be careful with that in future.

Spray them with a garlic, ginger, oregano or basil infused spray. Should work.

Crazy amount to pay considering the bath and toilet doesn't work and most of the rooms are tiny. I'm 30 minutes by fast train to London Bridge and you can get a nice 80's built 2 bed house for £800 a month less. Plus its only 30 minutes to Brighton, a few minutes from the countryside and 6 minutes to LGW,

Not worth the money at all. Hope they get something good better.

Hi Sophie - I love your energy and your outfit. Where did you get your black skirt from? It's so cute!
