FACTS. Weird that he can’t pronounce it, but still its repetitive trash. Same percussion beat pattern in EVERY song just with slightly different backround layers, the lyric subject matter is always douche-y/fuck-boy stuff, vocals are usually whiny and there’s no vocal range on reggaeton MC’s.

People say that the criticism is about class or nationality but it’s fair to criticize the lack of production and vocal range in the reggaeton scene, so reggaeton fans that claim racism or classism on critics are

Even as a hispanic myself, i know its just lazy and overly safe/predictable/formulaic production that makes it easier to dance to when you’re drunk at clubs. But the lack of experimentation with the drum beat and vocal melody have oversaturated the genre and made it so basic and boring.

If you look at east/west coast hip-hop when it was starting, or the Chicago house movement, jazz, or reggaeton’s predecessor: dance hall or literally any music that was originated by non-wealthy classes has more sonic variation.

Still, I personally like maybe a few reggaton songs (like probably 3-5 songs) out there, I still think it’s one of the few genres i can see that deserve being called out for being basic as hell.

It all has the same exact beat for almost the entirety of all of the songs. And many of the popular ones even have very similar melodies. It had potential to be better, but it's just super uncreative and repetative to the point that listening to it for more than an hour makes me feel like im going insane lmao. To each their own, though. 💀
