A short film showing how to tie the perfect Non Slip Loop Knot

This film shows how to correctly tie the Non Slip Loop knot; a fantastic knot for tying larger flies on to a leader or tippet, and one that ensures the fly fishes perfectly all the time. Easy to see, and with clear directions and some top tips, this is one of the best knot films out there.

In addition, this film finishes with a laboratory test that breaks the knot under a controlled environment - illustrating the relative knot strength.

The knot tested in this film were tied in a piece of 10lb RIO Steelhead/Salmon tippet material.

Thanks for the video! So here's the thing. At the start of the demo, he told us this knot is especially good for heavier tippet/bigger flies. I would go further and say that if you fish this knot with anything over 4x, you're screwed with a decent sized fish on - at least in my experience. I've tried tying this knot over and over again, but I always get break-offs on 5x or thinner. With a snug knot like the Orvis knot, I'm good most of the time.

The problem is, once you've tied this loop knot to a midge and once you've dangled that size 20-22 midge at the end of your tipped and watched how it wobbled and wiggled around so freely, you NEVER want to go back to snug knots; they're just inferior when to comes to freedom of movement of that lil' midge. It's like, "Once you go black, you never go back." I guess here it's "Once you go loop, the rest seem like poop." I don't know, it's a beautiful knot, though. I'm thinking about trying to tie a perfection loop to the hook eye instead of this mono loop. Perhaps that'll be a stronger knot. We'll see!!
