Any education administrator whose idea of administration is not to EDUCATE should not be within 500 miles of a school.

My wife taught for 34 years and she has run into crap like this. She will buy her kids what she wants them to have. Our Public school system has failed The American people.

Ngl makes me feel bad for my 7th grade English teacher. She spent her own money to get enough books for us to all read the outsiders because the school refused to let her use their copies due to not trusting kids with the books. The book was what made me love reading and sparked my interest in learning from her. Out of selfishness and knowing my family would never buy me books when asked (asked when we were still on the book) I stole a copy. She had a note on her whiteboard offering a reward to anyone who returned her missing books ( there was another missing) no questions asked. I waited until the last day of school and when school let out I went to her room with the book I took. I apologized and explained I took it because of what it meant to me and I loved to read it but my family couldn’t afford a copy for me. She was sad and said she wished I came to her sooner. She was upset her book was missing but was happy it found a good home was being enjoyed and wasn’t being mistreated. She wrote “don’t forget the feelings you had when you first read this, keep working and stay gold. I believe in you” on the inside cover and gave it back to me saying she can go to Barnes and noble over the summer for a new copy for the next year. I hugged her and thanked her while still apologizing to her for the months of deception and the theft. The following year when walking by her class she called me in and handed me a new book. The book thief. She said found it when getting her new copy of the outsiders and that I can keep this book too. I still have both books 15 years later and I still feel horrible but glad when I reread them thinking of that teacher. Miss you Ms. Harley. You were the best teacher I had

Imelda Staunton is a phenomenal actress. She plays unlikeable characters perfectly.

When I was near graduation for 8th grade my mother decided that she was going to take me and my siblings and run over 1000 miles away, I was given a week to get ready and I was gone, I told my history teacher because honestly, he was one of the few I enjoyed being around in a school that all looked at me as the mix breed, i loved his classes and was always raising my hand and asking questions. When I told him I talked about how I was sad I wasn’t going to finish the book we were reading “Uncle Toms Cabin” I was heavily invested and I was close to being done before the class was even halfway. My last day he grabbed my book, wrote a small note on the inner cover, and handed it back and told me to finish it and keep it on me. I’m 21 now, it’s came with me through every new house, hotel room, couch I’ve lived on. Thank you Mr. Moore I’ll always be grateful for you.

“Bigger problems to solve.” No, they don’t. This *is* the problem.

It’s stuff like this that perpetuates the problem. Treating these kids like they can’t be trusted can’t learn only reinforces that idea in them and makes it feel like they have no future to work towards

I grew up in a quite conservative, rural place. And we studied WWI, WWII, Vietnam, slavery, the treatment of native Americans, poor treatment of immigrants, we studied labor and how it evolved. And each time, the teachers discussed the higher goals of what America can be. Learning about what we have done wrong, and learning that the formation of this country was so full of positive possibilities. These teachers helped me learn to think critically.

I graduated from high school in 1982 in Texas. We learned about the evils of the Holocaust, the evils of slavery across the centuries, the history of the US, the mistreatment of Native Americans...when did this stop being taught?

I was lucky enough to have the kind of teacher who made you excited to learn and could engage with us on a level, NO ONE was not worth his time and i never heard a fellow student say his class was "rubbish", plus he had a sense of humour, a true educator. When me and my friends left school and 20 years go by, we found out he passed away from a cancerous brain tumour. We sat there gutted and each one of us shared our memories of a teacher that you want, dont realise you need, he would say to our parents it was his pleasure to teach us. The o ky teacher all of us wanted our parents to speak to at parents evening. THANK YOU MR BUCKLEY.

that is absolutely horrific. And this is exactly why we need to teach kids that they are more than their environment.
