In my experience, incompetent leaders get going up. Not once have I seen an incompetent leader get karma

Sadly, they usually get found out, identified as a manipulator, and promoted to chief manipulator.

Unfortunately this often doesn't happen quickly enough. Our very charming director, who was also a complete sociopath, managed to survive for years avoiding accountability. The people who worked for him paid dearly.

It sounds like the best place to be is a heads-down individual contributor. Anonymity has its rewards.

Not everyone gets Karma. Sure, some people do, but some do get Karma way too late and way too little. If you feel like you're being exploited by an incompetent leader, just get out, no matter how hard it might be.

Eventually, they got hired into another company showing their great achievements.

Unethical programmers do just fine... they go on to implement amazing things like advertisements in the Windows 11 start menu and forced updates on everything that isn't Linux.

Unfortunately, it will not happen. They will get found out after 2-4 years or even more, they fire new developers, make the job a living hell for other developers and eventually they just LEAVE the company.
