For anyone wondering why it’s bad it’s because you are over stretching the tendons in your foot. And it can make it easier for you to injure your foot especially if you do pointe work. And I’m not saying you shouldn’t stretch those tendons because it can make a prettier point but they are also there to keep your foot from breaking. Just like any other muscle in your body there is a happy medium to how far you should stretch.

Hahaha. The intrusive thoughts always win when it comes to random stretches I probably shouldn't do. 😂❤

I never stand on both but the cracks I get from bending my toes back like this is so satisfying

Have you ever taken or observed lyrical dance classes, or seen a reverse toe hinge done?
The dancer starts sitting on their knees, shins on the floor and rises up, going through that exact position before standing.

I’m in the heck no category. There are multiple issues this behavior can cause:
You are overstretching ligaments on the front of the foot and toes.
You are standing on the part of the joint meant to cushion very small movement, and laterally for the most part- you can cause bursa and cartilage damage
The overstretching requires over strengthening to compensate. Anyone with hyper mobility will explain it is harder to deal with loose joints.

Whenever I get nervous in class I do it because it’s kind of like a pain punishment and a reminder to point my feet… I should really stop that😓

I actually had a ballet teacher who made us do that and then walk like that on yoga mats while holding the barre. She was Russian. 90% think that was partially the reason my sister broke a metatarsal. When we went to another studio they were like uhhh no that's not right at all, you shouldn't do that lol. I'm not sure what that was supposed to accomplish because no one goes on pointe with their toes crunched underneath their feet...

I've done it since I was little and it actually did cause me some issues in ballet. my toe knuckles being overly flexible wasn't great for support on point even though I had really strong ankles, and it made my point shoes wear out faster.

Love to see how your body changed since you started practicing ❤

It’s great when you’re strong enough. Good for you even.

I used to do that as a young ballerina because we enjoyed entertaining our ballet friends with what weird things we can do with our bodies 😆

I’m a pointe/baller dancer I admit to doing this (especially in my converse shoes for some reason)
