With my wife starting a new job i'm going to have to take a step back from work and help more with day to day life, taking kids to school, pick up, cooking etc. I was rather worried about this as I couldn't figure out how I was going to still have an income. So i sat with the wife and did some calculations and hears what i got.

These are rounded up figures and they are as if you were to work 52 weeks a year which know one likely would. They also do not included any sick or holiday pay or any expenses. Still love to hear you're thoughts.😀

I know this vid is 2 years old but it’s all just theoretical. It doesn’t factor in ANY expenses nor does it factor in the multitude of cancellations pupils give you therefore you’ll never be working to maximum capacity every single day of every single week of every single month in any given year!

15 minutes between lessons is also VERY unrealistic. It’s more like 30 mins to 45 mins !

You’ve forgotten to mention the cost of the car, maintenance, fuel etc which comes out of the instructor’s pocket.

I'm just starting my training and currently live in Devon where fortunately is not too much compilation mainly all independents only wanting to do 2 hour lessons and all charging between £65 & £74 I've also noticed all of them seem to have waiting lists. With this in mind I may take the automatic route as only 1 in 8 of the local companies have access to a automatic car

Thanks for the video. Don’t you need to factor in running costs? Petrol, insurance, maintenance. These would be really high

£40k income - £13k expenses, so realistically more like £27k.

Hi would love an update on this video. Thinking of a career change and this is by far coming out the best option for you did 4x12 (per month to year) so you have given yourself 4 weeks holiday also 😊.

Those hours are brutal 😂. I’d be screwed if i had lessons with a full time job 😂

Because of the money some instructors will not let you go, they keep taking your money and tell you, you are not ready for the test.

What about VAT? Driving lessons aren't VAT exempt. How do you handle it?

I've watched some of your videos with interest. Plus I'm sitting at home watching the Snow/Ice disappear slowly from my office window.

I know you mention other costs not covered, you also mention income over 12months. Most instructors make this mistake. But, I'd guess if you want a holiday once a year perhaps a week at Christmas, not to mention the bank holidays, most people get sick at least once a year then there are the odd days where you just cannot work, maybe the car needs repairing or its off the road, or you just want a day for a special night out your probably only be earning over around 46 weeks.

Its impossible to keep constant hours in your diary. Some may get lucky, but just remember all the problems you have making a lesson each week then so do your clients. Thats why in another comment I suggested allowing for a 10% cancellation of lessons.

The easiest and simple answer you have is to raise your prices. Most instructors will lose around 50/60% of the lesson fee. So if they charge £30 per hour then are actually earning £15.

I have a spreadsheet I use which details every single cost. All my household bills and business costs. Its staggering the amount of money I need to earn just to break even and have a few treats each year (otherwise whats the point).

You need to be charging closer to £40 per hour.

It's much harder to become driving instructor if you are in wrong colour especially if you are a male, once awhile wrong colour passes the test but unfortunately most of wrong colour don't FACT, I'm a British citizen and I have never believed the Racist examiner till I went 3rd attempt for part 3 and examiner failed me and told me I was very close to pass by 1 point short, you have a right idea how to teach but I fail you for this or that, absolutely rubbish, I have had so many Pupil, 67 Pupil passed with me within 12 months as pdi, and I had a lot Pupil came from other instructor they were unhelpful for them, yes I want to become driving instructor and I have passion for it, but I can't change my Skin colour,
