Michael!! Great video, this really helped out a lot. I've been playing with Resolve trying to figure out the workflow but haven't really understood the why and how of it until now. Huge help! Would love to see more tutorials on this :)

Through a ton of trial and error I’ve arrived at a very similar workflow to you. Almost identical😂. Sometimes I’ll pump a little color tone (teal shadow orange highlights) before the LUT node after WB EXP and CONT. it really is a game of back and forth making tweaks to get to the final destination.

Great video man. Keep up the good work, you have talent.

Nice little tutorial.
Have you considered a Colour Space Transform sandwich to work inside?

You could create a CST node to get your LOG footage into a really large colour space. Resolve have created a Davinci Intermediate Colour Space which is bigger than almost any colour space at the moment.

You could then create another CST node which goes from the Davinci Intermediate Colour Space into a Rec 709 Colour Space.

It would then be a case of putting all your grading nodes in between these two CST nodes.

Just a thought for you.😊

How different (or if it would be any different) would you say the steps from 2:22 would be, if instead of CST nodes, you'd input color space from that camera(rmb>input color space>camera model)?

Hey Michael! Can you breakdown how you achieved that misty/dreamy look on the headshot/explaining video? That look is much more interesting!

Thank you, This was really informative video. especially for those who are scared of color grading in Davinci.
I use Iphone 14pro & 13pro to shot my videos. which Luts would you recommend to used while editing to make the video look high quality. Are there good luts which I could use in Envato Elements?

My friend could you explain a little better how to find out your color space and gamma? I am sure those people using a pocket 4k don't see no such thing as a picture profile or gamma setting in the UI of a BM pocket 4k, me being one of them and if there is correct me if I am wrong. For the record in the UI setting under RECORD tab there are only 3 option video, extended video, film. no where on the other tabs do I see anything else regarding gamma or color space beside the LUT tab, where in there I do see a film gen, but that's about it . If you would be so kind to shine some light on this that would be great.

If your lut is destrying your image you're either using a really crappy lut or working in the wrong color space. Instead of adjusting the key output use another CST to put your footage into the correct color space for the lut then convert it back.

See where you're wrong is that coloring is the first step of my editing process.
