"Silo" is a series of post-apocalyptic science fiction novels by Hugh Howey. If you wish to avoid spoilers, please stop reading now.

The series is set in a world where humanity is forced to live in giant underground silos due to the toxic environment outside. The story follows the characters as they try to uncover the secrets of the silo and its mysterious past.

Several of you wrote that this film is a "City of Ember" remake. I can say without spoilers that the basic idea is really the same, some details and basic conflicts clearly come from there, but it is a significantly more serious further thought. Thanks to that, it's not the same story. It's like the similarity between "The Running Man" and "The Hunger Games".

I really liked the novel. I'm really looking forward to the release and I hope the film will be as big a hit as "The Hunger Games"

If they really want to subvert expectations, they should have the outside be exactly what the government (or the silo's equivalent) said it is. That would actually be unexpected. Sure, maybe they're overzealous in keeping social order, but what if they're actually trying to protect their people?

Hugh Howey is a brilliant writer. Ive read and reread The Wool series, and the Sand series over and over. There is also some great fan fiction out there based on his series.
