Pregnancy Heartburn: Causes, Symptoms, and Foods that Help

Pregnancy can cause intense heartburn that can be very persistent. During the first trimester, I had a few bouts of heartburn. However, my heartburn has gotten more intense in the last few weeks.

Pregnant women can experience heartburn for a few reasons. First, hormones relax the sphincters in the digestive system, which can allow back flow of stomach acid.

In addition, as the baby grows, everything will be pushed up a bit to make room for the baby.

In this video, I discuss my heartburn experience, and I also give you my top foods that help to relieve my heartburn.

This is totally unrelated to the video above. However, I just found out that I passed my NCLEX today. Your videos are played in a huge part to make it happen. I wanted you to know that I appreciate you. 🤗

Most pregnant women complain about heartburn.... I get the whole GERD/acid reflux package. Burping, belching, gurgling, intense stomach pain, heartburn, nausea

Hi Nurse Sarah, I just want to thank you for all the help your videos gave me. I graduated with my BS in nursing degree in 2010 and was then in the cooking industry for a 8 years, but with your videos and studying on my own, I was able to take and pass the NCLEX-RN on my first attempt (May 14, 2020). I really appreciate the dedication you show and the attention to teaching you have given to all the subjects. From the Philippines, but now in Maryland -- Teresa, USRN

For me what helps when it gets really bad I start to sip small amounts of cold milk sit and sit up long enough for it to go away . Even stand if I'm not to tried. Staying calm is also key. This tends to help me alot.

Bananas, apples and most of the common things that should help with reflux are actually triggering mine. I'm full term and on labour watch but really struggling to eat and sleep with the reflux I'm dealing with. It almost feels like early pregnancy morning sickness all over again, except I can't throw up because it triggers braxton hicks. 😫

I put a teaspoon of baking soda in small amount of hot water and it really helps but doesn’t last very long. It makes me burp which makes me feel somewhat better.
