Throughout Celtic FC Foundation’s annual Appeal, we encourage you to Light Up Someone’s Christmas this festive season. Today, we continue to shine a spotlight on the real difference your donations make to our beneficiaries.

These organisations support families, pensioners, the homeless community and refugees – as well as a whole host of others facing poverty and hardship.

And the Appeal will also once again provide support to women and children in refuge, via four Women’s Aid charities in Glasgow, Dublin, Belfast & Lisburn and Derry.

Christmas is generally a joyous time for most of us but, for those who are facing various financial and emotional challenges in their lives, the festive period can often become the most difficult time of the year. The Women’s Aid organisations that receive your support through the Appeal provide assistance to women and families who live or have lived with the traumatic effects of domestic abuse, striving to ensure they remain safe.

For those experiencing domestic abuse, Christmas can become a time of fear, uncertainty and isolation, rather than one of peace and joy. Through the support they provide, these Women’s Aid charities will be helping to make the festive period a more positive one for countless women and children, and your donations to this year’s Christmas Appeal will play a huge part in allowing them to do so.

These four organisations are very aware of the genuine difference that your generosity makes and we heard from each of them on the challenges their families face.

Marie Brown of Foyle Women’s Aid spoke of their gratitude for those who’ve supported this year’s Appeal, saying: “We would like to thank everyone who has supported this year’s Christmas Appeal. The women and children will benefit greatly this Christmas because of your generosity.”

Eavan Ward of Women’s Aid Dublin highlighted the importance of the contributions made, saying: “Economic abuse means that the women we work with struggle to pay their bills and keep food on the table, irrespective of how resourceful and resilient they are. Being able to offer women some financial help, to make their Christmas costs easier to bear is really affirming. We see the real difference this help makes in the lives of the woman and children and we are very grateful to everyone who supports Celtic FC Foundation’s Christmas Appeal, thank you.”

Elain Smyth of Women’s Aid Belfast & Lisburn added: “We are very busy here in Women’s Aid as the demands on our services just seem to be endless. The donations received via the Foundation’s Christmas Appeal make such a difference to the lives of the women and children we support, it can really be life changing! One of our women told us last year that she had no money to buy food for Christmas and presents for the children were just not an option. However, support from the Foundation offered her the chance to have a proper Christmas with her children. Your support is invaluable, and we are so thankful for your generous giving!”

Marie Farry from Glasgow Women’s Aid also spoke about the difference your donations make, saying: “The donations received from Celtic FC Foundation allow us to provide toys and gifts to our families in refuge, which alleviates the financial burden that this time of the year can bring. Having the Foundation’s support is extremely beneficial, as its helps create a happy memorable time for the children and young people and their mums. Thank you Celtic FC Foundation, for your continuous support.”

You can hear more from Glasgow Women’s Aid in our latest Appeal beneficiary VT below, as members of the Celtic FC Women’s Team squad – Kelsey Daugherty, Luana Munoz, Murphy Agnew and Kit Loferski – spoke to Marie and the staff, while visiting a women’s refuge local to Celtic Park.

A more than worthy cause this. If you talk to them you'll hear real cases that are both sad & horrific, but you'll see the difference they do for the better. Happy Christmas, folks. 🤞🍀

As long as these organizations aren't funding, headed by or run by transgender women, it wouldn't surprise me with the Board's stance these days!
