In 1989, I had the pleasure and honor (as a member of the volunteer group) to go into Todds, onto the floor of the drydock, right up to the ship and under the hull. Walking under that massive hull was a freaky feeling.

I always forget how amazing her service was. Great ship. Glad they are fixing her up.

It’s nice that the Texas is being cared for after being a learning tool for museum ships after all of these years. I hope to be able to visit the landmark one day.

Wow, this ship has a strikingly timeless quality to its design. It still looks pretty damn intimidating even now.

I just watched Travis with the Battleship Texas do a video walk around in the dry dock with her. The old girl has some issues but looks a lot better than I expected. I think the younger battleships will be in pretty good shape when they hit the century mark from what is being learned from Texas. I hope the museums devote some exhibit space to the wonderful work of maintaining and restoring these museum ships so that the public appreciates all the hard work and expense.

Thank you for taking the time to post video updates about Texas even though it isn’t your ship! I wish the Texas’ YouTube channel was as interesting as NJ’s!!

I know there are a lot of good people here in Texas that has also put a lot of their blood sweat and tears into this project and we can thank them enough also. I just hope the Battleship Texas Foundation will utilize your expertise and knowledge in the future of how to support and take care of her for future generations to enjoy. The Battleship New Jersy is lucky to have you on their team and we here in Texas will continue to help her also. Thanks again Ryan from the heart of Texas.

The Texas is still my favorite BB, I have gone to her 6 times in my life, most other ships only once.

I’m 68, when I was a kid visiting the Texas she still had her wooden decks. I remember being so disappointed many years later when visiting that they had put concrete over the decks

Hey Ryan, I've been watching your video's for a few months now. I have no connection to the navy but a big interest in technical subjects. What I find wonderfull about your content is the fact you do a lot in one shot. It feels so informative and calm. Keep up the good work!

Reality Check - It is an absolute disgrace that September 2022 is only the 2nd time in 74 years that the State of Texas has put Battleship Texas into dry dock! After the U.S. Navy gave her to the State of Texas in 1948 the state put the Battleship Texas Commission in control of her maintenance, but that commission failed miserably to do that. When I first visited her in the 1950s she had substantially deteriorated, yet the state didn’t put her into dry dock until 1988, 40 years after she was given to the state. In 1988 her hull & much of her frame were severely deteriorated. For the 1988 dry dock the state legislature funded far too little money. Some private folks & groups were worried about that big shortfall in needed funding so the private folks & groups raised many millions to add to the inadequate state funding, so that a total of about $14 million was available for the 1988 dry dock which allowed them to repair the hull, some of the frame, & other projects. That said, when she left dry dock in 1990 there was still substantial deterioration in various areas. Then, it was another disgrace that deterioration was allowed to continue for 34 years before the State of Texas finally put her in dry dock again.
