Megan
Since you are a Google school, you can use the Google Voice app for phone calls. You still use your own smartphone, but you get a google phone number for calls, text messages, and voicemail.

I feel so lucky in my Florida district. The curriculum department loaded all of the lessons, quizzes, videos, for all subjects. We can add as we want, but we didn't have to start from ground zero.

I'm in the biggest district in CA and I'm pleasantly surprised at how well they are handling everything. As of late last week, all students (all half a million of them) now have a device although many schools were already 1 to 1. Amazing how money can just appear like that! They are having us grade but set very very generous and realistic grading policies. I suspect these grades wont count but they want everyone to continue learning and if you tell the kids it wont count, they wont do it. So after the first week I stopped stressing out and am just going with it.

Hitting all the topics today! It’s comforting to know that teachers in LA are going through the same things as teachers in South MS. I’ve loved Teacher Tubers and Teachergram for a while, but probably not as much as I do now. Thanks for what you do!

Thanks for the informative video! I’m also a teacher who is using Google Meet. When I present my slides, I cannot see the chat at the same time because I write on the slides like I normally would for a typical lesson (so my slides take up my whole screen in order to write more legibly). What I found was helpful was to delegate a student monitor who would keep their mic on and let me know if there were any questions in the chat as I teach with the slides. The students are really responsible and love the chance to help out!

Thank you for your video. You hit some valid points. These first two weeks were like mine (minus the cute little energetic boy) I was frazzled. I needed a work schedule because I don't want to be online for 8 hours. I also decided to make a time for the students to reflect using a Google Form. Keep posting when you can, your transparency is important and refreshing. Stay safe and sound. Take care of yourself and your family.

Here in Toronto, Canada. We've been closed down since March 13th. Distance learning is supposed to happen on the 6th and your videos going over your experience are so helpful. THANK YOU

You can make your caller ID private on an iPhone via Settings, and then Phone. I would be very cautious about families having my private phone number.

Wow! I'm watching you from Chile and the issues are the same. We, the teachers, definitly have a monumental challenge with the society, more than ever. Thank you for share your experience!

Yay...I’ll be following you as I am a middle school teacher starting distance learning tomorrow. I am in Florida so we are remote teaching until April 30 or I believe it is going to be quite crazy but I am happy to be employed and supported by my administrator. We do NOT have to be live....

Hi Megan, I’m a 4th grade teacher in a suburb outside of Boston. I’ve always enjoyed your videos and have found them very helpful and inspiring! We too can post assignments, but can’t make them mandatory or graded. Thank you for continuing your vlogs during this unusual time! Enjoy your week! -Beth

Thank you for this video. I teach 7th grade ELA in Texas. We are doing online learning as well. I knew about some of the things you talked about but I learned a lot too! I have never done Zoom so I am nervous about it. I used Google classroom everyday so that part was easy.

Thank you so much for this video! Great info! We had one week of distance learning and then spring break. So we'll see how we get back into the swing of things tomorrow 🤞🏼

Facts! So many of my friends have been told that they must grade even despite this law!

We’re on week 1, today was my first day, and I’m a first year teacher. Stressful that I can’t hold them accountable for any of this work, but my biggest issue is getting ahold of all of them. I use Google Classroom regularly, but I’m in rural CA, and a lot of my students don’t have internet access. And then I co-teach and have a lot of SPED students, too. So I’m worrying about accessibility and following IEPs while setting out on this distance learning. Crazy day! Taking a Youtube break!

So helpful! Thanks for the Google classroom advice! I'm so used to Microsoft Office so I'm self teaching myself to use Google Docs, Slides, etc. The great thing is everything is automatically saved in Google drive. Total lifesaver😌😌😌
