You're correct. I'm in a writing catatonic state - not writing, not starting ... nothing, because I can't figure out what niche I want to write in. I've had a 25 year career in IT but I'm not interested in IT. I've written two novels - one which I'm currently seeking representation for publication, and between jobs. I love writing. I want to write as a freelancer, but I'm stuck with this niche issue, and beginning to scower the internet for help figuring this out, and being hamstrung until I figure it out. I'm going to try what you've suggested and see what I can come up with. Thanks for your help.

I'm just starting out (my daughter was born 3 days ago) & am interested in more conversational writing (like the email chains?). I'm not quite sure what I'm looking for or how to get over the hump & just do it. I'd love to be able to stay home with my new baby & not have to go back to work!

Hi Elna my question is once I started getting paid how do I know how much to charge or do clients offer me what they want to pay? How do I know if what they are willing to pay is worth me accepting that gig? Also what do you think about Alternative Health or Health and wellness as a niche? And do I need Microsoft word to be a freelance writer or where do I do the writing for the clients?

Hi Elna. I am most interested in history, though I am struggling to think of any ways to make this a profitable niche. I also have some experience in ecology/conservation and general geography. Any thoughts would be appreciated. (Case study and white papers jumped out at me as the most interesting of the bunch).

I kinda like discussing and researching history. Is there a market for it? Would it be something that wouldn't drain the life outta me to write and research about?
