Meditation can seem hard and ineffectual at times. One reason is the Red Bull Society: the modern world which has desensitized us to presence. I invite you to kick it up a notch

Very good.

I would like to add my thoughts on it, as this is a subject i am interested

Our society really is a hyperstimulus and an instant gratification hunt.

We are surrounded by distractions to drown our boredom and pain, so acutely present when we are alone or inactive.

Lastly, even if there are no distractions around, we have an overactive mind that is always ahead of the present moment, or still in the past - and disconnected with the moment

It is painful to just be, because we are withdrawing from so many addictions, including the addiction to thinking

So, what we are really afraid of are withdrawal symptoms !! But unfortunately we are preventing ourselves from unconditional freedom !

I totally agree with this. A formal meditation practice - i.e 20 minutes every morning etc. is just a training ground- baby steps to learning continual breath awareness or continuous meditation. Meditation that you did in the morning can't necessarily sustain you in an event at night since you are always living in the moment and the moment is constantly changing with new challenges and lessons. The benefits from the morning wear off eventually as you deal with different situations. So we have to learn to be in a meditative state at all times which basically means you are in alignment between your conscious/unconscious mind/higher self. Yesterday I watched a full 2.5 movie with continual breath awareness and throughout the day- I was so proud of myself! It became more of a true immersive experience rather than just a movie. Same with music. I do find it challenging to do this while talking though... and when doing strenuous physical activity like working out where I start breathing through my mouth.. any suggestions?

getting into my third year of meditating (with some dry periods, sure) and i cannot relate to this at all. I always get insights, toughts, get to reflect on situations in my life, or i open my third eye; and if nothing "amazing" happens, i still get to relax. I think people should stop wanting so much from meditation (as if "it" owes you something lol) and realise that this prctice is meant to give you the strength to go out in life and DO the stuff you want. If you got nothing going for you then meditation will be boring yes, if you got no challenges or purpose in life, meditation will feel out of context.

What can you say to someone who doesn't like/need/want mindfulness, but is forced to at school? And, when I express my thoughts to the mindfulness 'enforcers' (because that's what they are), they don't listen to understand why I don't like it. I'm forced to do it as ours is a 'mindfulness school.'
