High gas prices are impacting grocery prices

It's not just the gas prices that have been sky high in San Diego, but many shoppers are noticing increases at their local grocery stores too.

"Meat is up, chicken is up, beef is up, bread is up, they all are, and everything is more expensive,” said grocery shopper Mike Knox.

A spike in the price of chicken, bacon and eggs stood out to Knox who bought some cinnamon rolls, chicken thighs, hamburger, eggs and berries for $43.

"Now, you've got to shop carefully,” Knox said.

Colt Stump of his uncle’s store Stump's Family Marketplace says soaring gas prices are shifting shopper behavior as he's seen customers buying more in fewer trips to save on fuel, and there are also big changes with their delivery trucks.

Nobody should be surprised about this. If gas goes up, everything goes up. How are groceries supposed to get to the market?! In electric trucks?! It's gonna be tough for everyone. So spend wisely everybody.

once the prices gone up they never come down, even if they do come down it's gonna be very insignificant.

Only 3% of our oil is from Russia btw. This war doesn’t justify the increase.

News has become so, un-news worthy, we don't need you to tell us what we know, try doing some actual investigative reporting and exposing people and companies. They went to the grocery store and didn't even interview the manager or the owner, they interviewed a teenager. This is why they are getting tuned out and turned off.

How much meat is thrown away when it doesn't sell? How about a story on that.

You know what? Prices at the grocery started going up at the beginning of the pandemic and never came down--just kept going up. Grocery stores started price gauging back then and haven't stopped. The gas prices are just another excuse to continue gauging the consumer. Does the price of gas impact the cost of getting products on the shelves? Yes, of course it does. But not to the extent that we have been seeing. Enough to raise the price of a breakfast bar from $1.25 to $2.50?! What a bunch of BS.

What I know is that grocery stores have continued to make huge profits since the pandemic began. So have oil companies and manufacturing companies and auto companies and trucking companies and many others. These companies got huge bailouts. And they have huge reserves for times when costs go up temporarily. These prices will never go down. The rich just keep getting richer, and the poor keep getting poorer.

Anyone but Trump as long as no mean tweets. Orange man bad inflation good! High gas prices good! High food prices good. Take your covid shots people. AS LONG AS ITS NOT TRUMP! Anyone but Trump! Shows you a great deal how much they love us Americans. What do I know right? Just some guy on the internet that is misinformed.

Good thing I grew up poor, I'm a survivor of eating cheap. Eggs, beans, bananas, oatmeal, rice food that averages $1 a pound. Watch out for the salt in Top ramen, you want to eat those every other day.
