Final Fantasy 7 might be the greatest game of all time.

I never make pop art. It's just not a thing I explore much. But I took a few days to reset my creative brain and found a great deal of enjoyment in exploring a technique I don't often employ to make a poppy object I would likely not set out to make. And sometimes the simple joy of making a simple object is enough. And so, I made an ode to my favorite video game ever made.

I'm 65, and I still love FFVII. I played the 1st Remake, when it came out a few years back 😁 Not just a "kids" game LOL

I was 38, when the original came out, and remember playing it with my youngest son, who was about 8 at the time. It's very sentimental to me also.

@ENCurtis: Your “lack” of seriousness is SO FUN and refreshing. Thank you for welcoming us on your journey. The game of your childhood is not one with which Im familiar, but this box!! It looks so cool and, I wood expect (ha! see what I did there?), this box would draw the curiosity of many. What’s inside? How was it made? Why was it made? I like that it looks retro and current at the same time. Another game that would lend itself to this kind of play is Space Invaders, given there are to many lines, angles and shapes to play with. Another thing I realize is that your selection of woods is SO much … nicer than mine. Im a newbie, though. Maybe I’ll grow into what I’d call the “more precious” stuff. Great video.

You truly did Cloud justice. I'm 39 and this game was one of my favorites as a kid.

Hey Eric, you do you - for every person that wants you to cut yr personality out of yr vids, a hundred watch yr channel partly because of it. This video wasn't a project I would (or could) do, but I still learned from it. Love yr work - keep it up.

I look forward to my Saturday mornings. I make big mug of coffee, go out to my shop, and open up this week’s ENCurtis video while preparing to start making sawdust and shavings. I really enjoy the visuals, the good tunes, and most of all the calm and sensible manner you bring to YOUR shop, and mine. Your approach to woodworking reminds me of my own… which is to say, it grounds me, brings me down to the basic elements. So I drink my coffee (I should get a quirkier ugly coffee mug, though), I watch Erik make something, then I get on about my shop day in a peaceful and happy frame of mind. Works for me.

Soooo… some YouTube Karen doesn’t like you to be quippy and quirky? Pffft. Just keep on being’ you, Erik.

I’ve never commented on YouTube before but I had to on this video. I to am 36 and FF7 was my all time favorite video game!! I’m really just getting into the hobby that is fine woodworking. The part about the adhd brain had me dying because that’s how I feel every single time I got out to my shop. I really appreciate that you’re always on the positive side of life! I’m a person who is in recovery from substance abuse and generally being a bad human. It’s truly amazing to see positivity in a world full of hate and division. I take a lot from your videos and you as a person someone I can aspire to emulate. Thank you for everything you do and keep up the amazing work!!

FF7 is definitely the greatest RPG of all time. I played it for the first time at a friend's house. And after that, it became the whole reason I got a Playstation. Thank you for this nod to when video games where actually designed to be fun and entertaining. 👏 🙌

That box turned out exquisite! A real masterpiece Erik! As a lifetime gamer, a game developer, and a woodworker, this piece really speaks to me. FFVII was definitely one of the greats!

What a brilliant and creative idea and the level of talent you have to have taken a video game and turn it into a work of art, is just stunning. It wasn't just the woodworking that makes me keep watching your videos, rather your quips and quirkiness that always has me circling back. I work a serious job, and after a rough night it's nice to watch you have so much joy in the pieces you create, and it gets my butt motivated to be a better wood worker.

Erik, your artistic ways of going about your projects are amazing to me. I have 40 years on you and have made many wood projects, but, your process of thought in your designs are terrific. Enjoy these videos immensely. Semper Fi Bud.

This is where the art and woodworking intersect, like in your podcast episode. I have learned so much from you. Thank you and DON’T CHANGE

Love the process, the execution and the personal touches. I sometimes need to get away from my paid pieces and just get back to having fun with all my stuff. I once experimented with putting inlay all the way around the side edge of a 1/2" thick, small walnut board that was laying around. Yes, I put tiny miters at the corners. Years later, it became a fabulous lid for my wife's keepsake box. Like others have said, you be you. Thx.

Thanks Eric. I’m a hobby woodworker and I also go from big projects to little ones then back to big ones. Not sure why I did this but seeing you do the same makes me think there is something to it.

I’m just a hobbyist, but between big projects, I look to build something small and fun for my friends using leftovers. I just finished making cosplay weapons for my D&D group. Last year I made some dice boxes with drop towers. Through them, I started getting orders for boxes, which I sell for $40-$100 a pop. Not much, but it’s just a hobby ❤

You turned the box art into box art. Another great project, Eric. I could see how long this took you by just watching the outfit changes. It was a great study of attention to grain pattern and direction.
