Lanshan 1 Tent Review | Budget Good or Budget Bad?

For the past several months I've been testing the lightweight Lanshan 1 Backpacking Tent that is available from both Mier and 3F UL Gear on either Amazon or AliExpress.
Not only is this a budget friendly backpacking tent, but it's also a sub three pound tent for right around $100! Is this tent worth the low cost and how has it been for me out on the trail.

To add a little head room when laying down in the tent, scavenge a couple of sticks from the area and use them to prop up the guy lines on the outside of the tent. This pulls the fly and the inner tent attached to it out 4-5 inches and greatly increases the area just above your head and your feet.

I'm 5'10" and have used the Lanshan 1 for a year or so. I love it. Some tips for you.

1. Stake out the five points with about 25-50% slack. Then setup the pole, add tension to the stake out points and you get a near perfect pitch every time.
2. Extend the side tieouts out further. This will change the angle and make for a better pitch giving you maximum room inside the tent.
3. Use a stick as a toggle to hang your pack off of your trekking pole inside the vesibule. You're welcome.
4. With mesh above your head any moisture should build up on the fly and be able to run down to the ground outside of the bathtub floor. I've yet to have any issues with condensation in my Lanshan. Every tent will have condensation build up over night, unless you're not breathing.

Nice review, I like how you showed it setup with rocks. Believe it or not I strictly use 6" ti shepard's hook stakes.

Great review Devin. Some very valid points. I totally agree about the length of the tent, especially when using an inflatable mattress. I've not really had much chance to test mine yet. First outing ended in having to bail out due to lightning. But early impressions are that it's a very good value lightweight tent.

I have been using a 3F UL (similar to the Lanshan) for a year now and love it. I use trekking poles anyway so I wouldn’t include them in the tent weight. Even after all this time I have rarely had a set as taut and nice as yours. I’m also nearly 6’ but still like it. For the money and weight it’s a good deal despite the drawbacks. Great review.

I have one, also. I sewed all the mesh attachment points directly to the outer tent loop's, eliminating the clips. I'm 5'8", I fit just fine. Love it!

The Lanshan 1 has been updated other Lanshan 1 (2021) which has slightly more space. Also there is the Lanshan 1 PRO which is a single wall ultralight version.

Great indepth review!! Even though this review is over 2 years old, it is still very helpful. I currently have the River Country Trekker 1. It is very close in design with the Lanshan 1, but, it has a couple of design flaws. So I am trying to decide on either the Lanshan1 or the 2 for a replacement tent. Still on the fence. I may go with the 2, as it has a little more room.
Again, thanks for the review!

I'm 6'1" and I use a Large Thermarest pad and a Sea to Summit Large pillow. No problem. I have an 18" piece of tent pole that i put mid-way through the side guy line. It lifts the side significantly. I love it.

I was waiting for this review! I ended purchasing the lanshan 2p tent from Aliexpress for $116. I don't mind the wait for the price. Thank you for this review!

I still rock this tent on some trips. Mostly I use the xmid1p, but if the weather is going to be super windy like on top of a 5500-6k bald, or in the highlands I'll take to the lanshan.
Why? If the wind is going to beat on a tent, I'd rather it tear up the $120 one, not the $260one.

A few years ago I hiked the 42 mile Uwharrie Trail in NC as a yoyo. On my 3rd night I was smashed by the remnants of a hurricane. The area got 4iches of rain that night and also had some 40+mph gusts.
The lanshan 1 kept me bone dry. I was actually really surprised.
There was so much water rushing through camp that is was literally a wide creek.
My shoes were in the vestibule on top of my zseat. I woke up at 2am to pee and I was sitting in a giant puddle, that was at least 30ft by 30ft and more than an inch deep. My shoes and zseat we're floating and had floated outside of my vestibule area. There was water flowing under the floor.
I couldn't believe I never had one dropoff water inside. Absolute believer in the lanshan

I'd love to see a review of the new Lanshan 1 Pro! There are a couple of videos out there, but non as in depth as your reviews. The inner is supposedly much larger and with it being a single wall design, it is also lighter than the original.

Thanks for the video as this really helped me seal the deal on buying the Lanshan. I am losing a bit of weight as I’ve been carrying the flycreek ul2. I am leaning towards the zpacks plexamid or duplex this spring but really wanted to try a trekking pole non-free standing tent first to see how well I like it, you have the best review on this out there. So as I go lighter and lighter this will work great for me. 👍

5:30 Driving rain under the vestibule wall getting your gear wet
Simple solution I use
3F UL sell a single tarp/groundsheet that only weighs 160 g
I use it inside the vestibule to keep the inside of the tent clean and dry,
with the extra width, I wrap my pack to keep it dry from driving rain

Awesome review! I’m definitely going to pass on this one. The condensation issue above my face doesn’t sound like a lot of fun. Thanks for the real-life application with a sleeping pad.

Hello Devin, great review. I'm only 5'6'' and shrinking, so the tent ⛺ size should be ideal and the price is right ✅. All the best to you and your family. 🤗

If you pitched near a tree and tied the end guys up higher rather than out to a stake do you think it would help with the head and leg room a little?
