Is the AMX M4 54 Worth The Grind?

Is the AMX M4 54 worth grinding in World of Tanks? I will go through the line and tell you what I think and feel about the different tanks, and then show you some games with the tier 10. I will then round things off with my opinion of the grind, and you can make up your own mind if it's worth grinding for you!

The Tier 9 and 10 are perhaps some of the only tech tree tanks to have naval artillery for weapons (the US-designed 5"/54 dual purpose guns and the French 130mm naval gun)

M4 54 also gets one of the best 3d styles in the game. I'm still partial to the E100's style, but it's a gorgeous tank nonetheless.

One of the last techtrees for me to grind, Tier9 bought now. I almost never buy Tier10 nor play them since the economics. I concentrate saving credits for the grind for now.

6:23 to be fair you have another 90mm gun, it has better aim time and more DPM than the top 90mm and 170 standard pen is still high for a tier 6

And that's what I did: Stopped at tier 9.
Perhaps I bought the tier 10, I don't remember, while it was the top of the tree (time ago). But even so, I've never used it.

Looks like it might be worth Free XP-ing past the Tier 8 then, if possible.

currently at tier 9, unlocked all modules, i the oompf of the bigger gun but i must admit, the smaller gun is more reliable, smaller gun definitely more competitive for the tier 9

The Tier IX used to be my fav Tank in the Game. The Tier X feels a bit more disappointing compared to the IX

Tier 9 is nice. I unlocked it before the buff to tier 10, kept, it and never bothered with the tier 10. But I'm a special case that doesn't really care about/enjoy tier 10...

Video is a little late as I am at tier 8. Finally got the tracks so have the turret and gun to look forward to. Whoopppeee. Good vid Max I will keep going. Managed 3900 blocking. The big problem with the grind in the tier 8 is to many tier 10 games. 62% games yesterday was tier 10. Could not damage the paint work. Now that is the frustration at tier 8.

Here's what I think about the max m4 54 with big gun: in terms of performing a bit better the gun needs around 260/265 pen on standard and 305/310 on gold and because it's AP will lose pen by distance. So the tank needs this buff on gun because you need to play quickly with the tank. You need to snapshot, cause you don't have 3 seconds time to aim, and if you need to snap you will fire a lot of shells and that will cost so much, so in terms of balancing the costs you have to pen some shots and to do that you need much penetration to give you the opportunity not to aim at every weakspot. Obviously the tank needs the speed of 40 km/h back. This would be my philosophy about the max m4😅

I still like the tier 10, yes its not nearly as good as before but I still do avg 3.8k dmg per game the gun (130mm) which I use is so good idk why but it hits hard as well doesn't need stab on top of that imo

currently at tier 9 and i enjoyed it alot, though literally tier 5 to 8 is such a painfull grind, especially 65t, that thing is a satan spawn in this game(though the game itself is already a satan spawn) but all in all, i'd personally say to just bear through the pain of the grind and get to tier 9, it's worth it for me, its the only one in the entire line thats actually good tier to tier (i heard the tier 10 isn't as good tier to tier as the tier 9 is)

Couple things: I've never tried tier X with the small gun, always thought it has worse DPM and alpha damage in exchange for better gun handling... After watching your video, perma track seems to be possible(if you play against bad players, because let's get real - most of the tanks(players) can repair their tracks within 7.8 seconds), also if enemy heavy is using hardening plus right 1st field mod you won't be able to track him within first shot because of low alpha. But the 270 pen on normal AP shell seems great... 315 APCR is I would say the same as 296 AP because of normalization. One thing you forgot to mention is the ability to overmatch with 130mm on tier X and 127mm on tier IX. Because with 120mm gun, 40mm nominal armour inclined is autobounce for you(so strv is the worst TD you can encounter >D), and I would say that it's more noticeable on tier IX, because you can encounter more tanks that has only 40mm on top of their turret, on side, or during face hugging on top of their hull. I've 3 marked tier IX using the big gun(From what I can remember worst enemies you can encounter are german heavies because 270 even if it's AP is just not enought against them). But for more casual players I would choose small gun.

IMO, the recent nerf has completely ruined it to a worse state than it was before the buffs. The gold pen and dpm is nice, but now its sluggish and has worse gun handling. All it needed originally was a buff to dpm and pen. Playing it now just feels so boring and frustrating.
