Thanks! My 2T SSD was not recognized in the laptop or the PC when I installed in in a removable type C enclosure. Then when I saw your video, it hit me! the drive was loose and not all the way in so I opened the case and carefully placed it tight into the connectors and there it was! It became visible in the Disk management and ready to do a simple drive + formatting. Thanks!!!

What type of screw did you use to install the 980 Pro?

I would check your motherboard manual. Your 970 evo plus should be running at the same speeds as the 980 pro on an intel platform for the time being until 11th gen. If you click on drive details within magician im willing to bet for the 970 evo plus its running at pcie 3 x2 or youre possibly running the Microsoft nvme driver for the 970. (the 980 pro doent have an nvme driver yet though). You should be seeing 3500 reads /3300 writes on that 970 evo plus. As for pcie gen 4 like you said, we wont see those speeds for the 980 until 11th gen intel cpus. Id check your bios make sure you all the m2 slots are operating at pcie 3 x4

Powered up rhe computer, do you not need to clone the new card off the original card before changing out cards?
