If you are on the fence about if you should invest in a mirrorless camera for wedding photography, I'm going to share my experience with using this camera on a wedding day and share why I think this is the BEST camera you can buy for wedding photography.

This is outstanding, I can hear your joy as you talk about the camera from a photographer’s prospective instead of a reviewer.

It was nice to see a real photographer that uses Canon DSLRs for a living review the R6. I was tired of watching videos that would compare between brands. I just wanted to know how the R6 compared to and actual full frame DSLR. Than you for this video. You have convinced me to go ahead with my R6 purchase.

I was considering upgrading from Canon DSLR to the Mirrorless R6, and honestly This review is 100% hands-down a confidence boost into jumping right into getting my own canon R6. Your entire presentation was absolutely spot on and exactly the questions I had. This review should be considered as the Perfect 30 minute commercial for the canon EOS R6. 🙌🙌

For shooting with flash (or strobes) particularly in dark situations as you mentioned in the video, you need to disable *exposure simulation* to not have a black viewfinder (or LCD). I actually assign that to a custom shooting setting (C3 for me) so I can switch right to it.

Rent the Canon RF 28-70 f/2.0, you will be amazed at the images. The lens is remarkable! I bought one for my R5 and the IQ is exactly like a prime lens. B &H will deliver my canon RF 85mm 1.2 tomorrow, looking forward to using that beast at my next wedding.

Upgraded from 5DMk3 (purchased in 2012) to the R6 (October 2022) i was so nervous to use it that i didn't touch it for 2 weeks!!! I went on a trip and left my Mk3 at home to force myself to learn the R6. Spent 2hrs watching videos on how to use it and set it up and the results were amazing!!
Watching this video made me even more confident in the R6 because we had a similar experience!!! Love your content

I have heard the batteries in general are an issue for the R series. Namely b/c you are utilizing the video screen 100% of the time, so this is I believe is going to be the norm, and not the batteries. I am so hesitant. Glad you liked it overall. I don't think the 20mp thing is an issue. Let's face it - shooting RAW, it really won't matter. I have 2 5D3 and a 6D. I don't think I will need to get anything new for a bit, but at least when I am ready, I will feel a little more ok about it all!

My mouth DROPPED when you said 12, 800 ISO - it looked SO GOOD. I'm getting this camera tomorrow and I'm SO EXCITED! Thanks for the review.

I use to do about 60 wedding a year. I do about 20 now but I do about 80-90 seniors a year. Thank you for this video. It is so refreshing to see an actual photog walking the talk.

If you turn off exposure simulation I believe that will solve your flash problem with the viewfinder!

I just bought the R6, upgrade from my 6D mark ii and I’m so excited. Like when you mentioned you took less photos because of confidence you had the perfect shot! I feel like most of my time is usually wasted sorting through thousands of photos because the 6D sucks at focusing.

I’m so happy to see you excited about this now! You can sense it as you watch.
If you rent the RF 70-200, you will LOVE it! I thought that I wouldn’t want new lenses until I tried that one. I’d love to see you try it out.

Just got my first R6 and this was a great video, I’ve been sick since I got it and wondering if I have made the right decision and watching this has made me feel so much better! Thanks!

I have had the EOS R since it came out 2 years ago and have had the R5 for about a month. I have a few suggestions on settings, in which you may be interested:
1. Since getting the R5, I changed to using cRAW. FIle size is about half of RAW and you will not be able to tell the difference. ie. Need less SD card memory and less HDD space.
2. If you have the adapter with the control ring, or an RF lens, then the default setting for this ring (on the R5) is for Exposure Compensation, but requires the shutter button to be pressed to activate the function. I changed the setting so it does not require the shutter button to be pressed first. So my default mode is Manual, but with Auto ISO. Hence if I need to change the selected ISO value I can either use the control ring for Exposure Comp or manually set ISO using the ISO dial (which by default is the Quick Control Dial on the R5).
3.There are 3 custom Mode buttons (ie. C1, C2 and C3). I have these set up as 3 common conditions I regularly use and when you include M mode there are actually 4. So one of these is for when I use flash indoors and it is too dark to be using it as fill flash. In this case the ExpSim is deactivated (ie Exposure Simulation which Katelyn described) and viewfinder brightness stays the same regardless of room lighting. For all other modes I have ExpSim enabled. I have one custom setting for cases where I intend to use fill flash and People/face recognition with eye detect, another for fast moving subjects with animal eye detect and another with fast moving subjects with zone autofocus. These are just examples to give an idea of the flexibilty of the customization possible. You need to decide if you want the camera to remember changes you make to custom settings. ie. If you turn the camera off and back on, do you want the settings as you stored them or as they were when you last turned the camera off.
4. You will need the camera in hand to understand this suggestion. For the fill flash setting (ie my custom setting above) the camera will not work as you would hope, so I have a workaround until Canon hopefully releases a firmware upgrade. The ExpSim icon and histogram in the viewfinder are grayed out, when the flash is attached and on, but they are still essentially working, until you press the shutter button half way (or AF ON button), at this point the camera acts as if ExpSim is disabled (std brightness viewfinder) until the exposure metering timer (default of 8s) expires and then the viewfinder reverts to the grayed out histogram etc. The workaround I mentioned involves pressing a button which will cancel the 8s metering timer, causing the ExpSim condition to return to the viewfinder. I found 2 buttons that will cancel the timer, but you have to press them twice. ie. "Play" and "Mode". There are probably other buttons you could use and you could also customize a button, but pressing the Mode button twice is quite easy.
5. The joystick is not set up to move the AF point across the viewfinder, by default. You need to set it up yourself. Having done that, pressing the joystick will center the AF point. The SET button can now be reassigned, because it also defaults to centering the AF point. I reassigned the SET button to display the Drive Modes, so I can quickly change these settings. My point is that there is a significant amount of customization available on these cameras. In most cases if you don't like the choice Canon made for a button or dial you can probably change it to something you prefer.

I just purchased my new R6, and at the same time got a job to shoot a wedding. I have not had the time to completely learn everything on this camera so I was very happy to see you post this great video.

OMG haha I literally said out loud five times "OH! I love that!" I just got my R6 and am about to use it. Thank you for sharing!

13:24 I think a lot of people use smaller (64GB ish) cards for their main card and a larger 128/256/512 GB backup card. You would just swap out the smaller main cards and leave the larger backup in the camera unless you need it.

I find this video as overall best demonstrated video out of all the other R6 videos out there. A big thanks for helping me having a clear thought to opt for this camera.
