It took 17 years of discussion, planning and construction, but on the 10 May 2005 the Memorial To The Murdered Jews Of Europe was officially dedicated. Colloquially known as the Holocaust Memorial, it's Germany's central memorial to the Nazi planned genocide during the Third Reich. For the space the size of a football field, New York architect Peter Eisenman created 2711 sarcophagi-like stelae rising up in sombre silence from undulating ground.
