I read that Julie Andrews wasn’t gonna make an appearance in the movie because she didn’t want to take the spotlight away from Emily Blunt and she totally approved of her playing Mary Poppins.

@5:35 I can answer why that was supposed to be Julie Andrews and wasn't.
I haven't even seen the film yet, but I read an article that talked about Julie Andrews turning down the cameo role, out of respect for Emily Blunt being Mary Poppins.
She wanted it to be "Emily's show" and didn't want the people to say "but oh, there's the REAL Mary Poppins right there" during the cameo.
A very respectful act on her part imo. This is why Julie Andrews is such a cool person.

The wonderful thing about this movie is that, even though there are references to the original, the way they tied them in was respectful and fun. I felt like I did when I watched the original for the first time. Even at age 25, I felt the magic of being a child again. And that makes this a good squeal and a good movie overall😊

Evidently, Julie Andrews didn't want to be in the film, because she didn't want there to be comparisons to her, and Emily Blunt while Emily was doing the role. So it was a sign of respect. ETA: love the review as always. I like the original film, but I acknowledge the issues it has, so if this film has issues as well? eh. It won't make the film lesser than the original, because the original is flawed.

I can’t argue that the movie never needed to exist but I’m glad it does. It gave me all the feels. And as far as the less exciting plot goes, it was mostly drawn from Mary Poppins opens the door.

I thought this sequel was musically and visually spectacular. Not as magical as the original but the effort being put into this one was pretty forgivable.

We need another Fantasia. I'm ready. It would be good for them to fully reintegrate 2D animation.

I saw it today and I actually liked it! I haven’t seen the original in a very long time but I was just in a theatre production of Mary Poppins, but I wasn’t constantly comparing it. The only time I really compared it was the weird uncomfortable slightly sexual tones in the song “The Cover is not the Book” because I was like “Mary Poppins...shouldn’t have this weird Chicago fee but ok” but I think I’m getting over it the more I listen. I mean, Lin’s rap is particularly amazing 😆. I also loved the 2D animation. It was so cool and I loved how it tied into the story! I really REALLY loved it!
(Also: I TOTALLY WAS THINKING IT SHOULDVE BEEN JULIE ANDREWS AT THE END BECAUSE THAT WOULDVE JUST BEEN THE ICING ON THE CAKE. But Angela Lansbury was great too.)

According to Julie Andrews she turned down appearing in the film so that her presence wouldn't distract from Emily Blunt making the role her own. So instead of the audience seeing old Mary Poppins and new Mary Poppins they could just view Emily as Mary Poppins.

I super agree about feeling the nostalgia in this movie that was supposed to be felt in B&TB (for which I had none)! I just saw this tonight and I’m with you! I was humming and tapping my feet and just all-around delighted! I had the same feeling with this one that I had with the original with new moments and references. For a Disney remake/sequel that’s the best I can ask for.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge out of Water was mostly 2D. (The trailers just didn't reflect it for whatever reason.) Also the recent MLP Movie, which was animated using computers, but was 2D nonetheless.
