Something else to mention is that when you buy the TS80 as a kit, you'll also get the silicon type USB cable that is resistant to heat/melting. That can be handy for this application.

I love the TS100. It's got a nice variety of tips for most quad soldering jobs.

Shorter tip = easier soldering. Works off of USB-C 3.0 that most of us have multiples of. I have them in my house/car/power bank... The 18 watt works exceptionally well, see review from EEVBlog and you'll be amazed at what he solders with it. Only downfall, right now, is that not many tip selections yet..I'm sure that will change very soon. This will be my next iron, once I recover from my quad parts purchases...lol

Thanks for the video. I think my ts100 will do for now...I was wondering if I was missing something - your video clarified the fact that I am not!

I have been waiting to see this review. I recently got my TS-100 as it was on sale and got every tip and accessory they make for it. I am in love with this iron. I may look at the TS80 next year once they drop a bit in price. I do like the fact it can run on on a power bank though. I don't think the TS-100 will run on a PB as I tried it once and it wouldn't work. I was using a 10000mah Xiaomi unit. Nice review Nick. Love your content so keep up the good work sir

Fantastic, Nick. 😊
I have a TS100, that I got from Gearbest for review, and it's amazing!

Great review, as usual! I'll stick with all of my TS100's though. You're limited on power options with this one, where with the TS100 you can use 3s-6s battery in the field... So you don't have to carry ANY extra battery... if you crash, just grab one out of your pack, plug it in, and bam... back in business...

Weller WLC100 40-Watt Soldering Station for $40. It's heat adjustable, tips are cheap and easy to come by (Weller is sold everywhere), it has a nice lighted on/off switch and heats up super fast. Also it won't roll off the desk since it comes with a nice stand with a spot to put a wet sponge for cleaning.

I have used an iron with a audio type plug and it got pretty loose over time.
I REALLY love the ts100. Why spend more and need new tips, plugs, etc. For a slightly smaller, round size?

What about custom firmware? I really dig the smooth and fluent temperature change on the ts100 with CF

Haha TS80 is considerably more expensive on banggood

Please do some soldering comparison of TS80 vs TS100.
The TS80 seems kind of limited with its 18W vs the TS100s 65W...

I would love one! Just can't really justify the money.

I switch off my yihua 93x-D and im sure it cools as quickly or a little less quickly due to the greater mass, but either way I don't see a big upgrade here based on the auto-off feature. I have considered the TS100 for a while, and gave a short look to the TS80. I have a few issues with it. A modified laptop charger can run a TS100 and a hobby charger, making carrying around usb-c and a fancy block kinda pointless extra. This loses points when it ends up taking more space than a TS100. Whatcha think?

thanks for the info... do you have a link to the solder/flux you use, I just bought some off amazon and it's junk, used to just get it from radioshack but now that that's gone...

Soldering iron review isn't really complete without showing how easy it solders AWG12 to a high amp PDB :-)

Yes please I'll take one, but $80 bucks is it really worth it?

From what I have seen and read, this is just about as good as a TS100. If you need a good iron then either would be a fine choice. It just depends on what you are doing but for micros, the TS80 is more than powerful enough for that use. However, I think, you are merely paying for size and convenience on the TS80 since the TS100 is considerably less to buy...just saying.
