My F6 Typhoon Gets A Gearbox Tune! ZF6 ISSUES*

i head off to Monster Torque down in Malaga to get my gearbox finally sorted in the 2006 FPV F6 Typhoon! Huge thanks to Rob for helping me out with his know how.. he really is the Ford guru around Perth..

It really changes your whole perception of the car and respect for it when something major is sorted.
What gets me though is why wasn't such a quick fix done so much earlier?

Just got a 2008 FG XR8 ute, got radiator replaced under a recall (no cost to me).

I'll be looking to install a seperate cooler for the ZF transmission when the 12 months recall warrenty is up.

The big problem with soft, buttery shifts is that there's more time for the clutchpacks in the ZF to slip against each other during gear changes.
More slippage for increased comfort means more heat. Which means more wear. Which is fine in a normal car but behind a performance engine and hard driving, the ZF box will die prematurely from slippage, wear and heat.
Abrupt, harsh changes feel worse to the driver, but they are actually better on the lifespan of the gearbox. Which is why you tune the ZF.
They modify taxis auto gearboxes to shift much more firmly so they can do the 400, 000km without failure.
My BF GT-P has the Boss 290 with a Vortech blower and we had to firm up the ZF for it to live with 450kw.

When I got my ve cammed, the box had to re learn as well was stalling everywhere it was great lol sorted it self out after a day or two

the battery relocation and 4' intake pod kit is one of the first and best mods you can do aside from the xover delete and intercooler upgrade. I see you have the crossover pipe delete already which means your intercooler plumbing has been corrected also. I found the Turbo Smart compact BOV's to give the best sound on these. <$100 used of ebay. Great little mod with big results. Great car but yeah get that pod away from all that under bonnet heat and give it some fresh air from outside.

Same thing happened with my Territory Turbo. The tuner "tuned" the ZF trans and it wasn't nice to drive as an everyday car. After a few tweaks here and there I ended up back with the stock ZF tune and it's much better.

Been to two auto trans places trying to get my ZF reflashed, no can do. Not a fan of the ZF the way it shifts, miss the old 4 speed Borg Warner in my old NA Fairlane, that use to stay in gear and roll when you lifted off the accelerator pedal. Will get in touch with Monsta.

I think this is an "adaptions reset" rather than a stock tune flash, your supposed to go through a whole driving procedure of going up through the gears then coasting to a stop like 10 times after doing it apparently but who knows how much it really matters.

Nice one, Ross. I think they were overestimating the mileage needed. Usually the engine computer learns in about 150km. The 'box computer could be similar. Good spot seeing the radiator repair on the F6. It's time to prepare our vehicles for Summer. Stopped at the side of the road with the bonnet up is for other people! Reminds me, a coolant change is due on my Falcon.
