Always stimulating to see the style here, I always go to the app to think out the presentation.

The straighten function seems a bit illogical, only because you are drawing with it in free space, in expectation of applying that change to an object. Though you do draw in free space to measure between points, you always pick a theoretical level & draw it on an object to level it, and thus the process is logical. For example create a skewed polygon with the line tool, then use the ruler on one edge to level with respect to that edge (it also presume vertical, if you are closer to that orientation).

Classic training example is a horizon or corner edge of a wall, you draw on it and click straighten either horizontally or vertically. (The crop tool btw has this built-in via cntrl using it's pointer.) Your text example was not useful because it started out level. Conversely you can confirm level by drawing carefully across a text object and getting 0 change.

It's the same brain cramp that happened with the count tool and selections. You created your own selections rather than using color range to select like objects in the image. In essence as I posted then, it's not about the tool, it's about the objects in the image. You draw on what you know should be level, and viola it is leveled.

not very helpful; moves too fast to see where selections are; doesn't bother to explain set up.
