Bangladesh Turmoil: India Expresses Concern Over Safety of Minorities in Bangladesh
India's External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar said on Tuesday that India remains focused on the well-being of minorities in the violence-hit Bangladesh until law and order is restored there. He was addressing the Rajya Sabha on the ongoing political crisis in the neighbouring country. "We are also monitoring situation with regard to status of minorities. There are reports of initiatives by various groups and organisations to ensure their protection and well-being. We welcome that, but will naturally remain deeply concerned till law and order is visibly restored," he added. This statement comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a cabinet meeting to discuss the situation in Bangladesh. On the same day, Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted. Anti-quota protests in the country turned into a mass uprising against PM Hasina, which eventually led to the collapse of her government.
